Commuting - Bike Routes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi, I'm a newbie. I plan to start commuting next week. A friend gave me this link bikemetro.com - Get a bike route anywhere in Southern California!
The site has been down for the last two days. Does anybody know of another a site that will map out a bike route in Los Angeles? I'd like to stick to routes that have bike paths/lanes as much as possible.
Thanks,
Kim

While we're at it, I'd love to know if something similar exists for the Kansas City metro area. I've done a bit of googling, but haven't found anything so far. :(

Question: why not get a good map book and map it out the old fashioned way -- by hand? And then test ride it on the weekend? That's what I do. I usually go to the City and get one of their "free" city bike maps. Additionally, I visit the tourism bureau and get free city maps from them. :)

That's how I'm doing things currently, but an online route-finder would be a handy addition.
