I stopped using my mp3 player while riding 'cause I couldn't hear traffic. Dangerous. Anyway, I have a few songs stored in my head that I use to keep cadence up and me motivated while moving up hills and such. This morning a - shudder - Kelly Clarkson song burrowed its way into my brain and I couldn't shake it out.

Anyone else get earworms while riding?

Any song by Kelly Clarkson would be better than "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stephani. I HATE THAT SONG! I shouldn't have read this thread. Now for the rest of the afternoon, all I'll be able to think of is "Cause I ain't no hollaback girl. Yes I ain't no hollaback girl."

Whenever my mind takes me to these forbidden realms (i.e. brittney spears, five for fighting, jesse mcartney -- egad!) I forcibly remove them with a spirited (and loud) rendition of "Angelina" by Louis Prima. Seriously, this song is the best to bike to. When it gets to the "Zooma, Zooma" part I am always going faster than before and sometimes screaming. Just thinking about it makes me wanna climb a friggin mountain. And more importantly, not having "Beautiful soul" boring a hole in my brain. If you ever hear a guy singing this song on a silver custom Gilmour frame - that's me. And I will be passing anyone not singing.

Then it's about Gwen making a sexy/pouty expression. The it's about Gwen rubbing her beautiful flat tummy.

I watched the video with my mute button pressed.

It is the tribute to cheerleaders like Tony Basil's "Hey Micky" was in the 80's. Now that one will stick in your ear all day and on tomorrow's ride...

"Hey Micky you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind..."

Why did Gwen leave No Doubt ? They were good. Don't like her solo.

And what on earth is a "hollaback"??? Do we have them in Oztraylia, or is this an Americanism lost on the rest of the world??

Please help.

For some reason today I had that one song from the boy band episode of south park.

The finger one.

...it's a bit too wrong to start quoting here..

Out of curiosity I just downloaded said "Angelina"...........bring on Brittney

Thanks! I had that song in my head on the way home, and I starting singing it... out loud. I was having fun anyway. This morning it was U2. Much, much better.

I knew someone would do it!

I had the original "Duke Of Earl" stuck in my head for about a month after a guy at church sang it at me. On purpose.

I usually get either Alice or church songs stuck up there (ours tend to Rock :D ) but it does vary. There's usually something "playing" though.

Well, having kids, I unfortunately am open to all the evil earworms propogated by the large purple evil one and Dora the Explorer.

For some reason the worst earworms for me are horribly sappy eighties ballads, usually duets that pop into my head during periods of extended exertion. I considered not writing what they were but since I have "oh mickey" and "867530niegh-eee-ine" (jackasses) stuck in my head I'll fill you in and start the suffering.

[Editors note]
At this point jim wrote, then erased one particularly sticky song.

I just can't stick it to you folks. It's too horrible to tell you.

But a close second is "here I am, rock you like a hurricane." And the king of them all, "Beat it"(beatitbeatitbeatit-duh dump dump, duh dump dump[insert eddie van halen solo here])

This is the song that never ends, it just goes on and on my friend,
some people - started singing it not knowing what it was,
and they'll continue singing it forever just because.

"Let us go then, you and I, while the evening is spread out against the sky like a patient etherized upon a table. Let us go through certain half-deserted streets, the muttering retreats of one-night cheap hotels and sawdust restaurants with oyster shells. Streets that wander like a tedious argument of insidious intent to lead you to an overwhelming question. Oh, do not ask what is it, let us go and make our visit..."

I may not have quoted exactly, and the line breaks are not in my memory, but this is an excellent way to kill ear worms.

I spent a Friday afternoon editing a Britney Spears piece for Access Hollywood and of course if contained her music. When I went out for my Sat ride I couldn't get "whoops I did it again" out of my head. It was horrible!

I had Don't Stop by Michael Jackson in my head this morning. It worked pretty well too- until I passed a line of moms dropping their kids off at a daycare. Then it just got creepy.

I cannot believe you mentioned this one; I've been using "Don't Stop" since it came out (I'm old).

Hey, I love this thread. I've been looking/posting on the Mechanic's Forum exclusively; you guys/non-guys are tres cool.

"Earworms"; I like that, too.

what's it called when you make non-discernable heavy metal noises with your mouth while riding? You know, heavy drum beats, distorted guitar riffs, etc. sometimes i do that when I’m riding.

This had me laughing out loud here at the office...my daughter is at that stage and, of couse, daddy needs to know all the word so he can sing along also...

After a tough ride: "we did it, we did it, we did it, hooray, lo hicimos, we did it..."
