What do u do when you like what you see from behind and like it even more once you see the face during the overtaking moment. I like chics on saddles more but joggers tend to look better and more fit for some reason, have you ever tried slowing down and using some kind of pick up line or just be nice and starting a conversation? Do they get upset and act like you've spoiled their rythem or do u get some kind of cooperation? I'm just curious cuz some girls are too pretty to be passed by.

I dunno, I'm not good at hitting on girls. My conversations usually start with "uhhh, uhhh, hi. My names, umm, uhhh chris. What your name?"

To be honest I just clicked on this thread because I saw "Girls" in the title.

ROFL.....Girls..on bikes, don't see many of those around these parts and if I do they're riding with their husband. If I ever do find a girl out chugging along by herself...I'd say something...it's a rarity.

"on your left"

possibly ask about the bike. If you whistle I will chase you down and wreck you. It gets old real quick.

Ok, I have to tell this story now.
Yesterday I was headed out to the trail to run, not to bike. As I'm putting on sunscreen this girl jogs in from one end, grabs water at the station, then heads out. She's not moving fast, so based on her speed and head start I figure I'll be alongside her in about a mile.

Nothing. Not a bleedin' sausage.

So I figure she must've picked up the pace, so I start picking mine up, and another mile goes by and I realize I've been burned. So I start pulling the pace up some more, pushing the gears past the easy training jog I'd planned. Nothing. She's burned me HARD.

Just then she zooms past in the opposite direction. On a BIKE. Apparently she was a triathlete and today was brick day or something. I'd been trying to catch what looked to be a nice little Trek road bike on foot.

Today's training run totally trashed and my legs destroyed, my pride and I managed a slow lope back to the car.

Nah, until I get around to buying cycling shorts I have been biking in track shorts and a tank top. I blame that.

Last ride I got out of the city without incident. Then I come across a guy standing by the road, beer bottle in hand. I hear "Nice ... bike" from a guy that probably hasn't been on one since he was a kid. Bike, yeah.

A post of mine to another thread that you may find relevant...

I've got a good friend who has about 100 bicycles (no kidding, one of THOSE guys), and really loves them to the bottom of his heart, always working on them, tinkering, etc.

One year at Burning Man we are all sitting around when this beautiful, I'm talking angelically sexy woman comes riding by on a bike, completely nude. Her hair is trailing in the wind, her bare breasts glinting in the sun, looking just perfect in every way. His wife gestures at the woman and says, "Wow, will you look at that!" and my friend replies, "WOW!! You don't see 30's Schwinns in that good of shape very often!"

She later accused him of being burned out on titties, which he now vehemently denies. But I was there, I saw him look right past the woman and right to the bike, and he's gonna have to do some serious flesh ogling to regain his credibility as a sexual being.

Seriously though, I ride a lot with a coworker of mine (female) who is a triathelete in training, and we run into a LOT of women on the rides, most of which could smoke me. But when my coworker is in 'training mode' and is sprinting along with me spinning as fast as I can trying to keep up, we seem to inspire the 'race mode' in the female cyclists we pass more than the male cyclists. Maybe its the woman/woman competition thing, or maybe the woman/woman when there is a man around competition thing. I dunno.

I'm a pretty friendly guy, and will usually say hi or something nice to just about everyone. If I ride past you and say, "Hi! nice bike!" I'm probably telling the truth, not trying to get in your bibs or nothing. ;)

peace,
sam

Since I'm happily married beautiful girls while out riding (or anywhere else for that matter) for me are like National Geographic magazine - exotic places that look great but I know I'll never get to visit..... They certainly make for a more enjoyable ride tho.

My advice is go for it, don't be shy just greet them like you would any other person, something like "hi, beautifull day for a ride!" - but mean it, let yourself be in that appreciative state of mind where you really are enjoying the day and the sincerity will come through, then just let it flow from there. If they want to continue the conversation you'll know, they'll respond in such a way that continues into conversation. if not, then you're going to feel good just because you said something nice to a fellow human being and there's nothing wrong with that.

When I was younger (in my 20's) I used to have fairly good luck picking up on female cyclists while riding. We have a hiker/biker trail around here, and I used to ride it to warm up, so when I'd see a cute girl on a bike, I'd try to find something wrong with her setup (seat height was almost a given for a non-serious rider) and offer a tip as I'd ride past.

"Passing on your left... oh, and you should probably try raising that seat an inch." and that would get things rolling from there.

not to rain on your parade, but just let the girls ride; theres a whole level of awareness built in when you're out solo that you're pretty wary of anyone approching you, and if you're zoning at all, it can give quite a fright

that said, I've had guys ask if they can bike-with when on paths, or having a quick chat at the top of huge climbs, that was cool... guys turning around and following you on bikes, not cool

I think if you just offer a friendly hello, that most of us girls find that nice. But remember that SOME of the girls out there are all business. Most of the time when I'm riding by myself, I'm in a complete zone and I wouldn't know if a guy was trying to pick me up. So don't get offended if you get no response.

You're not raining on anyone's parade. I know quite a few women who took up cycling to meet guys, so both kinds are out there. :)

I have only seen one woman biking when I was out. She was serious in what appeared to be a one piece riding suit, on a road bike. I said hi and did even get a glance. Oh well. I'm in it for my health, I should stick with that.

Runners are definitely better candidates for ogling than cyclists.

I've given and received many "wow you're hawt" smiles, but fortunately/unfortunately, it never goes beyond that for me, I don't think my wife would like it and I probably wouldn't know what to do anyway :D

The best way to get a lady's attention is to look at her as you pass with wide open eyes and a huge smile... then crash. Works every time.

Girls like to be noticed! Hey, it's one of the reasons we bike, to stay in shape.

If you see a hot girl on a bike, speak up. Say something like, "Great trail! Hey, mind if I hang with you for a while?" If you are actually riding, she might be way too out of breath to have an actual conversation, so if she says yes to riding with her for a while, that's cool. Next time you get to a resting place, or crest a hill, you can say something -- and you will have had some time to think up something nice and relevant to say to her. If she doesn't say something to you first.

Note #1: Bike gloves are great at hiding wedding rings. If she seems uninterested in you, she's probably wearing one.

Note #2: Girls who ride alone can either kick their friends' asses, and therefore have few people to ride with, or they like going out alone for all kinds of reasons -- one of which might be meeting a cool guy.

You really don't have anything to lose. Worst case scenario, she blows you off and you just do the ride you set out to do anyway. Best case scenario, you both bike down to the brew pub afterwards and have a few coldies.

"Passing on your left... oh, and you should probably try raising that seat an inch." and that would get things rolling from there.
So when I passed that cute guy the other day and warned him about the backpack strap -- which was dangling dangerously close to the wheel -- did he think that was a pickup line? Seriously though, if some guy, cute or no, told me I should try raising the seat (or doing anything else to my bike for that matter) I'd probably clobber him.

Happened again today. That's 4 rides in a row. This time it was a guy in front of Walmart. What do guys think is a huge turn off? I need to somehow add it to my cycling wardrobe.

Edit: it wouldn't be as bad if it was a guy on a bike.

A couple of months ago, my wife was riding up Tantalus, a challenging 5 mile hill in our neighborhood. About 3/4 of the way up the hill, she noticed a guy on his bike about 100 yards back. She could tell by the way he was flailing around that he was working really hard. When he caught up to her, he slowed his pace but was clearly out of breath. Between gasps, he introduced himself and she reciprocated. He then tried to start a conversation with her, but because he was gasping and wheezing so much, she couldn't understand him. She kept responding, "What?" until she finally figured out that he was trying to ask her if she was interested in getting some lunch after the ride. She said, "No thanks" and turned up her effort a couple of notches. He tried to stay with her but couldn't keep up. :)

My wife met me at the top of the hill and told me the story. Just as she was finished telling me the story, the guy rode by and we just snickered to ourselves as we watched him go by. He was still wheezing and was trying very hard to ignore us.

Moral of the story - don't try to pick up girls when you are cycling, because you may not have any pride or dignity left when she kicks your a__! :D

Why weren't you climbing with your wife anyway?Because I'm much faster than her and I don't want her to hold me back! :) Actually, the truth is that my wife is a bit faster than me up that hill, so she gives me a 4 minute headstart and she challenges herself to try to catch me before the peak.

But put us both on a flat course and I'll smoke her big time! :D

There in lies the answer. Go to hollyood and get a bunch of really super duper hotty friends so that you blend in, hire me to ride with you blocking other guy's veiws ;) , and stay away from waddler stores/areas.[waddler= person that waddles instead of walks]
