Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Mercier Kilo TT

Does anyone have any experience with the Mercier Kilo TT?

It seems to me that Mercier makes good frames, but the fact that they don't list what the bike's components are on their website suggests that they may be utter crap.

There's one on E-bay for a decent price, but am I going to have to put a ton of money into the bike to get it halfway decent?

if you USED THE SEARCH you would know that the mercier is a rebranded KHS flite 100.

i bought it off ebay this week, i figured i can either spend 300 on an Iro frame, or 350ish on a complete, take the frame off, and put the "alloy whatever" components on the surly, as i'd have a better chance selling it as a complete than as a frame

I got a Mercier Kilo TT. The frame seems nice. Some components are decent, others are cheap. Its a bargain basement fixie so don't expect a nice racer. But the package works.
I still think I might have gone for an IRO if I did it again. But I don't have any experience with decent upright bicycles. (Only recumbents before my fixie).

If I swapped out the wheels for my new wheels (32 High Flange IRO's laced to Araya double walled rims) and swapped the bottom bracket out for my phil wood and changed my seat over would it be a good bike for racing? I intend to ride it very hard though not as abusively as my work bike. It will be an occasional commuter and only be used for work downtown in a pinch.

Do you think that for the price it would be a deal? I don't put any stock in the components being worth anything, but I do like the look of the KHS frame and I don't particularly like the IRO frames. If I can get a good track frame for $350 I am more then willing to drop another $150 or so on components...especially since I have the wheels and a new BB.

well, if you just want the mercier/KHS frame, you could just pick it up from spicer.

I'm basically doing the same thing as you. Taking a KHS and upgrading it for the velodrome this fall. with new wheels you're pretty much set. the ones it comes with a pretty much crap. other components that are crap are the stem and headset. oh, and the seatpost and saddle too. but on a $300 bike, what do you expect?

the BB on mine is a FSA, I lucked out and got the Sugino 75 cranks.

I've bought one in Nov., have replaced seat, installed front brake and since put a good 1+k miles on it, it's holding up well, longest ride has to be abut 50 miles (ouch). I'm having a blast riding it, a good user and since it's cheap I don't mind beating the **** out of it! Plus when locked up I don't think a second about it while having a pint, try doing that with a Keirin frame.

For the price it's a great bike, a lot people check out the bike and think it's worth something.

Components are still holding up but the frame is the best part and worth upgrading components from time to time. Stock tires gets flats easily. Not sure bikes available anymore. + Don't hold breath with Bikes direct warranty.

i love mine. have replaced almost everything but the headset and BB. geometry is awesome, imo.

I think it's funny you're asking about something as cheap as a Mercier when you have a Phil bottom bracket.

Merciers look pretty and all, but how worried are you about looks when you're racing? The IRO is definitely a better buy.

The Iro does not have track geo.

I've had one for a year or so =)

Very happy with it, I just recently installed a front brake and set it up for commuter / around town / training use...

My only concern is with the FSA BB, I had another bike with a sealed FSA BB and it exploded after about 1500 miles...

Other than that, I spent more than what the entire bike costs on new wheels / parts ....

Hell, it didn't even come with a real track chainring, it came with some crummy 3/32 chainring...

they mercier is also alot cheaper and by the time you change out the wonky parts oon it it is still the price of a base model mark v

replace the wheels anc the cog and lockring the quando hubs strip out easy

I have had two merciers and a khs flite 100 and love em
