Tandem Cycling - Northwest Tandem Rally Anyone?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
This event is coming up, anyone planning to attend in beautiful Bend, OR? Here's a link, not too late to register online. http://www.nwtr.org/2005/

There's a large contingent from the Southeast US plus some extended "tandem family" members from the Midwest headed to Bend as some of the organizers are personal friends from their brief stay in Atlanta a few years back. We'd hoped to attend but our youngest and long-time girlfriend decided to get married in early July last fall and are also closing on their first house at the end of the month so.... cest la vie. Sounds like it will be a great event.

We'll be heading there from Iowa City. Our honeymoon was nearby in Sisters in 1983 and it'll be fun to ride in that area again.
I'm looking at the drive and it looks like quite a long trip. Thinking about getting a Yakima Sidewinder to carry the bike...our usual rear hitchmount rack doesn't do so well on long trips and there'll be four of us in the Caravan. Any suggestions?

Have done a couple NorthwestTandem Rallies in the past: Boise, ID and Eugene, OR.
Well organized/great events . . . and Bend is a beautiful area! Can't make it this year . . .
Y'all have fun!

If your bike is on top of your car, buy one of the nylon bike covers that fit over the handlebars down to the rack. I just came across Idaho and Oregon and the bugs are very thick right now, and your bike will be a mess without a cover.
Route suggestion, I 80 to Rawlings WY, north on US 287 to Jackson WY (the Tetons are stunning right now, this goes right by through the National Park), across US 20 to Boise ID, and into Bend.
