Anyone else think that it's a shame that a two-time (and current) Italian National Champion has been excluded from the 2002 Tour? I honestly believe that he could have challenged (and probably nabbed) for stage wins given his current form, just as he has done in previous editions (won 18th stage of TDF 2000). Seven pro wins and two of them are Italian National Championships, one in the TDF... you just have to love guys who are charismatic "big-day" racers (er, winners)... not unlike a certain giant zebra we all know so well...
I don't buy this "Saeco - Gibi = 2nd rate team" thinking. What do you think?
SAECO-LONGONI FOR TDF 2003
Cheers,
Michael
