Mountain Biking - what would you pay for a second hand kona hanhanna with front suspension?

hi guys im new to this forum and to mountain biking...



im thinking of buying a second hand kona hanhanna 2001
apparantly its in good nick

the guy said the specs are:

· 17.5 inch butted chromoly frameset with high tensile steel rear stays
· Front suspension – RST 280 forks: 3.5” of travel. Fully adjustable.
· Wheelset: Shimano STX Hubs on Orange No. 5 26”wheels laced with double butted spokes.
· Tyres: Kona Break & Enter
· Shimano STX RC front & rear derailleurs
· Shimano STX RC rapidfire shifters
· Marin 6061 alloy riser handlebar.

he reckons he spent 60 quid upgrading it too.

guys i know absolute bugger all about mountain bikes, but am looking to get into it starting with a budget buy of course.

I guess you're from the UK? How much is he asking for it in the first place?
I'd say it's a perfect bike for someone just starting out. It's a million times better than other bikes you could buy, and back in its day I think it was pretty decent. All depends exactly what needs doing to it, and how much the seller is asking in the first place.

Two questions:

How much is 120quid in American Dollars?

How tall are you?

120 is 217 USD
80 is 145 USD

My worry is why he's taken the picture from that side. If he'd taken the picture from the other side, you'd be able to see the gearing. Then again, maybe I'm being cynical.

£120 for a bike like that is a decent price, if it's in decent nick. If.

For the USians, Konas cost almost twice as much in UK as they do in the US.

£120 is alright for that, but if you really tried, you might be able to do a bit better. It it's in a really good condition, then i'd be tempted to get it. If stuff needs adjusting, or is wearing out, then try and haggle him down. Providing the drivechain, and brakes are good, the worst part of the bike which i can see is the fork. However, a pretty nice second hand xc fork, will only set you back about another £50 or £60, which you probably won't need to spend anyway.

That is most definitely not true.

rst is a company that makes super-entry level forks (i'm not saying super as in good, im saying as in they're about as entry-level as they can get...) and they don't exactly have the best reputation... but not exactly the worst either, on some of their forks.

did anything i just say (said?) make any sense?

the rst low down- used to be good.... now they suck, end of story

You won't get a much better fork on a new bike you buy in this price range and I like the steel frame this bike has, so I would go for it if it's in good working condition. As a newbie, you won't be able to tell a difference compared to nicer components anyway.

Nice bike, crappy fork..play up the fork downfalls, buy the frame and group.
That is a nice chromoly frame, will do for a long ride.
From a quick view looks under ridden, I see pointy drive teeth. :)

You're trying. :beer: That's all I ask. You are correct in your statement by the way. RST is a company who's suspension components are spec'd on low end models by a lot of companies. They are typically adequate for mild stuff, but when a rider becomes more advanced or requires a stronger component they aren't up to the task.
