Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Combatting Bicycle theft

There have been many threads about bicycle theft and thoughts about leaving 'bait' bicycles out to catch theives. Though this is actually car related and not bicycle related, I think many of you will be interested in what the police in B.C. are doing to catch car thieves

The bait cars have hidden cameras and remote ignition imobilisers. Lots of videos of theft in action. Good fun to watch the reactions of the thieves as they are caught.

haha, oh man.. dude, the CPD (columbus police department) has the most totally insane bait car rigup. it's almost unbelievable. basically, they can get in and steal the car, but the cops have a rig up that'll remotely kill the motor when they want it to... whatever, a few departments do this.. but beat this -- it ******** plays the COPS "bad boys" theme song on the radio when they close in. that totally slays me.

um, entrapment much?
i mean, bike thieves suck, but there are a lot worse people out there to catch, who make life worse for more people, in more meaningful ways than taking their ****.

ENTRAPMENT - A person is 'entrapped' when he is induced or persuaded by law enforcement officers or their agents to commit a crime that he had no previous intent to commit; and the law as a matter of policy forbids conviction in such a case.

However, there is no entrapment where a person is ready and willing to break the law and the Government agents merely provide what appears to be a favorable opportunity for the person to commit the crime.

Yes exactly..Entrapment would be if an undercover cop talked someone into stealing a car that was rigged. This is nowhere near entrapment, its called crime fighting, and Da.mned smart if you ask me.
