General Cycling Discussion - Sunday, June 12: How was your ride?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I did a very nice 50-miler this morning through western Hanover County, Virginia. The weather was cooperative, the scenery was nice, and I felt good. I spent some time yesterday tweaking the fit of my bike, and I think I've got it close to perfect now -- no knee pain, very little neck pain that only came late in the ride, and the drops even feel right now. How was your ride today?

Get up earlier.. ;) .. I went out for 80KM on McCowan this morning. Got an hour of rain at the start but then it ended and the rest of the ride was ok. There was a nice breeze along for the ride (side wind). Enjoyed it alot. :D
Did a quick 30 miler on the Fat Tired Rider. I just swapped the old 185mm Salsa stem for a nice 90 mm Nitto Tec, bringing the bars up and back. Totally changed the ride.

First day off in weeks. I have been fighting Mother Nature for weeks trying to sneak rides in between the rain. Today i gave up! It is supposed to quit raining sometime this week. It has been forever since we've had a dry forecast.

Wonderful!! 32 quick miles with a headwind all day, but we had on of the local Cat 3's along that we stuck up front to pull us. He didn't mind.

Great minus the fact that I was sweating so much I went through approx 20 oz of water in 3 miles and had to wipe my eyes every few minutes to keep the sweat outta em

Hot, hot, hot. Drank both my water bottles within the first hour. Bought more water (a 2 liter bottle of Evian). Drank that. Filled one of the bottles up at the lunch stop, and grabbed half a bottle of Gatorade from a riding buddy 10km from the end of the ride. But I feel surprisingly fit right now. Movie anyone?

I did the second half of the MS 150 (Escape to Lake Erie) from Meadville PA to Conneaut OH. Very nice ride, averaged about 17 mph for 62 miles. Yesterday I avergaed 14 mph for 82 miles, but it was very hilly.
Did about 56 miles on my old hybrid - figured a good pounding on roads and trails would break in it's new rear wheel. It sure did, I kept having to retrue it until I cranked up the tension and it settled down. :D
It is hot in Philly as well, so I set off at 6:30AM to beat the heat... still drank 2 x 33oz. bottles plus supplemental fountain water.

Sucky! Or maybe it blew? Hmm...
Anyway, did a short 20 miles into a constant headwind of 17 or 18mph, frequently gusting into the mid 20s. By the 10 mile mark I was behind my normal time by, oh, I don't know, 20 FREAKIN minutes! I know when I'm beat. Turned it around and headed for home, tail firmly between my legs.
On the plus side, it felt like a 50 miler :)
I went for the 14 mile newbie ride that turned into a 25 mile ride (yay! but it wasn't the intro to group riding I thought it would be) and I got sunburn (I'm not used to being out that long, usually go a little faster).

Got the next two days off from work and I am going riding tomorrow. Weather up here in New England calls for more Hazy, Hot, and Humid heat. I could care less though, I just want to be out and go biking :D

My ride was all foggy. Most of the ride my team couldnt see more than 20m... dunno what that is in yards. But it was a 16km team time trail race. It was fun. But we had one really bad crash from one of the other teams... One boy broke his thigh and there were a few other crashes. And the ride was cold!
Excellent...thanks for asking!
20 miles after work in a 15-20 mph gusty and variable headwind. I tried to use it as a training tool but it still sucked seeing my speed vary from 20 down to 11 and back up again. Oh well....it's miles ridden anyway and I'm glad I went :D :D

It's hot in Baltimore. I went out mid day on the NCR Trail and then bonked 10 miles from the car. It's a terrible feeling to have not any energy, it felt like the tires were flat and the bicycle wouldn't roll. The limestone surface didn't help matters. . .
Well next week I'll do it again. . .
No riding here. I have a head cold of some sort. Massive congestion, ear block and dodgy balance. :(

I started out wanting to get in a metric, but opted for a 40 miler instead. It didn't help that I left the house at 1pm. 89F w/ 70% humidity thanks to TS Arlene.
Nearby Atlanta folks had rain pretty much all day I think.

My *ride* was great. Short (~3mi) but great. Unfortunately it was combined with a ~3mi trail run (Muddy Buddy event, see http://muddybuddy.com/) and I do approximately 0 miles of running training, my buddy the same. Kicked ass on the bike, but of course that's not the limiting factor. Placed 44 out of 65 in our division which is tolerable considering I hate racing and running.
Fortunately there was a beer reward at the end :)

Sunday - nothing, working and needed my car.
Saturday - OHBC supported ride along the Patuxent River, near Croom, MD. Planned to do the full 63 miles, but high heat, sore shins and gear problems made me drop to the 46 miler instead.
Nice country roads, not too hilly and not too much traffic.
I think a couple hundred showed up for the ride.
Not too bad. I took the Wonder Twins in their trailer for a trip to their grandmother's house. It's only 2 miles from our house but I took circuitous route to avoid the dicey overpass. Probably 9 or 10 roundtrip but very pleasant.
And then I had to come to the office, so that's another 9 miles. I hope that I can get a real road ride this afternoon, but at least I'll have 18 miles minimum. Which is pretty good for a day that I don't even consider it a riding day.
terrible:
im at my moms house with my bike at my dads
and this is the first day that i can actually ride b.c of the weather
hopefully tommorow :(

This was an "off" day for us after yesterday's 62 miles baking in the sun. We did a light spin for 30 min to purge the lactic acid from our legs, then we went to a cookout. :)

I didn't ride nearly as long or as hard as planned. My wife and I decided that we would take the kids to the beach....so I decided to get out and ride before we headed to the shore(rode from 10:00am to 11:30am). The weather was very nice...perhaps 85 and sunny. Hot!..just the way I like it. I ended up doing 24 very slow miles(solo) in 1 hour 30 min. Anyway...within an hour after finishing my ride I was sitting on the ocean front sipping a cold Coors light..while watching the kids build sand castles. I did get in good rides on friday and saturday...so my legs did feel a little tired after todays easy ride. I'm satisfied with my weekend and I am making progress. getting stronger, getting a tan, and losing weight. still along way from racing condition but I'm getting there.

A short ride to watch some crit races,The racers were riding in temps in the high 80's and very high humidity. Whew! NO shade either.

I rode like 2 miles to this sandy wash, and packed down the dirt so I could ride down this little steep part. Kinda fun, I should make it so I can drop off and land at the bottom, it'd be like 5 feet.
Rode the Van Fleet Trail in central Florida. Round trip was 58 miles. First non-rainy day (at least where the trail is) in several days. 85 degrees and 99.999999% humidity. Pretty whipped at the end. Saw lots of nature including two bulls standing in the shade along side the trail. Apparently they've seen lots of cyclist because they did seem to concerned. The trail is nice but mentally draining. It is 29 miles of almost perfectly straight trail; no turns, no uphills/downhills. This was my first ride on the trail.

Great. My wife and I found a route that allows me to ride my pace, and she hers, and we don't have to worry about traffic or stoplights or stop signs or losing each other. Finally, we can ride 'together' and I can still get my own work out.

Yep, it was a great day! Too hot, but I got out there anyway. Twelve, and a half miles of pure sweating, and the last three were up hill mostly. Schweeeeet!

Horrible! :(
My friend and I are newbies, but I just got the road tires put on my bike (comfort bike). I felt good and was trying out the new tires. Was feeling great and so was my partner. Longest ride she's done is about 16 miles (mine is about 25)....was hoping to get in a 20+ mile ride and she was game.
At first milestone (Safety Harbor pier), while turning a sharp turn it felt like one of my tire brakes came on (on its own) and on that shar curve, I went down hard. I derailed the chain, bent the handlebar out of place and worst, smacked my knee up a good one.
Got the chain back on, the handlebar straight and the back brakes which were firmly against the tire somewhat straightened out, but my knee was in too much pain to go any further. It was everything I could do just to make the 6 miles back home from there.
Crappy ride today.... :(
Good but draining. I put in about 70 very hilly miles and nearly bonked on the last mile home. I hate doing that last mile. Those are usually the hardest.

My ride did not go as planed. I hit up a trail i have not been on in 2 yrs. A nice little single track that winds it's way 10mi back into the hills cris-crossing a foot deep stream with a lot of trees for pleanty of shade. It used to be a fun, fast and some what technical trail.
I started off from my front door, ride 150yrds then descend a fast, rocky dbl-track down to the stream. As I start up the single track I realize, hey where is the single track? For that matter, where is the nice hardpack surface (as I power through 8" of super soft dirt). I figure, ok, this will end soon and i will be back on my way at speed. Well, shyte, the first 5mi of my 10mi trail (20mi round trip) is all super soft dirt that my tires sink into. So what was supposed to be a fast, relaxing ride is now a work your arse off power ride. What used to take me 20min to do now took the same amount of time to compleat half.
Come to find out (as I could tell by the tracks and a hiker I spoke with) the horses have been using this trail almost daily now for the last year. What used to be single track is now dbl-track. What used to be hard packed is now super soft and deep beach like conditions. Great for a work out but horrible for a relaxing ride.
I do not mind sharing with the horses as I ride/own one my self but they very seldomly used to ride on this trail. Nothing like riding on the beach  One thing I found funny, one of the hikers I encountered I recognized (from past encounters) as one who does not like bikes on the trail but even he said he would rather have bikes on the trail because we did not tear up the terrain as much :D
Did not ride,
I had some small tiny event with 3000 friends called college graduation (B.S. in chemistry, physics and minors in Math and Biology, 5 years)... and a fun grad night!
Will take a nice quick spin tonight... fun!
Did 20.5 hot miles. Wind mostly from the side unless I was going up gradient; then it was in my face. I usually work out a ride where I am going up hill for the first hour or so. Speed sure picks up on the way home.
Got hit by two miniature tornado like wind events this weekend. We call 'em dust devils. The first time, I was on the edge of it and teh wind was cycling at my back. Speed went from 23 to 31 in an instant and I spun it up to 38 before the little devil and I broke up. Second was quite a bit smaller. I still rattled me though. Hard to stay upright and on my side of the road way. Speed went from 20 to 13 almost instantly.
Interesting weekend of riding a total of 42 miles.

85 degrees and 99.999999% humidity.
Heh, I spend 12 years in FL... And even here in VA we get some humidity from time to time. I thought it was funny to see people complaining about 70% or 80%.

Did a local Supported ride called Sunday in June thru Ohio Amish country. Did my first METRIC century (or at least the first one since 1977). It went from rainy to sunny and hot, but I finished with some gas left in the tank. Great feeling.

I had an excellent Sunday ride. It was the second day of the Michigan MS 150 ride and my second century. The first was the day before. A well organized ride and good company. Still had gas in the tank at the end. What a great weekend
I had a great ride of approx. 120-125 miles to Jupiter Fl. and back.It was overcast then raining much of the ride up then sunny as I loafed around the beach etc. at Jupiter during the heat of the afternoon. Later in the afternoon and into the evening I returned.I have actually only done a few rides in the last few weeks focusing on weights(which I usually do during the June rainy season ) so I was pleased to finish strong.I probably could have ridden on all night but I was home and needed to get some sleep lol.
