Foo - I Love This New IPod!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I typically like listening to music while I ride and I had been using a portable CD player for awhile and needed a change. Taking one CD with me on my ride and listening to those same 10-12 songs throughout my ride got rather boring. I went to the mall the other day and bought a Apple IPod Mini capable of holding 1,000 songs. I currently have 658 songs stored onto my IPod with a wrist band for biking. It makes life a heck of a lot easier. No more skipping and I have more of a selection fo rmusic :D .

Thats the best part!
yes... i always prefer to hear the car plowing into me. that way i know how loud to scream in order to be heard over the tire squeal.

I used to wear headphones, then I had a few close calls, so I stopped.

I've used headphones a few times and have had no problem...I read generally in areas with wide shoulders hense giving me enough room between myself and the riders to ride at ease...If i do come to a busy area of town/city I will turn it down enough to hear the music and traffic around me.
My science teacher from alst year (I ride with him, he rides cat 4 or 3 dont remember) he rides wtih his ipod in one ear. I personally would space and well you know the rest.

I won't use one on a bike ride, but I love my Dell DJ. 5196 songs at my finger tips. They are great.

What sound does a car make when it's about to plow into you? And what can you do about it at that point, anyway?
I use music on the paths only. And even then, it's still very low. On the streets, though? Nah!
I am thinking about getting the ipod shuffle. I already have one ipod, though, and it gets zero use. Hmmmmmm... maybe I should just use that one...

Paths are actually the worse place to use music. Full of bladers, runners, jogger, joggers with dogs and other miscellaneous crap.
I've always hated, warning someone that we're trying to pass, with a bell or shouting or what not and they can't hear jack with headphones on. Similarily I tried warning a roadie coming my way on a path that there was glass up ahead. Did he notice? Nope. Why? Headphones.
Good game.

I don't ride very often with headphones during the day when there's heavy traffic... Normally I ride with music on the way home at 4am when traffic is virtually zilch.
If a car plowed into a mtb rider in the forest, and both the driver and the rider were instantly killed, would it make any noise at all?

Man, if you're going to gloat successfully, you HAVE to be able to spell it right. Otherwise, it's just sad.
Sounds like a lot of songs, though. How long goes it take to go through the whole list?

I'm reminded of an old Steve Martin stand-up routine in which he said he had a googlephonic stereo.

2MB per song? At a average of 3mins each... that's about 96kpbs!
How can you listen to such highly compressed "song" :p
