There are no bicycles in Dharamsala. And I am not leaving until I do a meditation retreat, and attend the teachings of the Dalai Lama. This means I am here without a bicycle for about a month.
For those that don't know: My fitness goal is to ride 475km from Manali to Leh, at altitudes of up to 5300m. Not exactly easy.
Currently I am at about 2000m. I walk all around this mountainous city daily, probably 10 miles a day. It is the most mountainous town I have ever been in. I walk up the steepest hills and staircases I've ever seen, all day long. That is good training and its keeping me sore. In addition, I am doing Yoga every other day. As I acclimate to the step climbing, I will do more and more, etc. My hammies are killing me ;) Oh... and a massage therapist friend, as well as a local guy, are hooking me up with massage therapy every other day. Just thought I'd toss that in to gloat :D
What else can I do to keep in shape for cycling... without cycling? Believe me, I'm doing everything I can to get a bicycle, but there are none here. Its too steep for them.
