Hi, this is my first post here so I wasn't sure if this is the right section. But anyway, I'm looking to buy an inexpensive bike, and I'm just not sure what I should look for. I do not really want to spend more than 200-250$ US. I realize that this is not a lot of money for a bike, but I just need something to ride around on during the summer in Boston (I have a nice Specialized bike at home, so I don't need another really nice bike.) I will probably look for something that is used, unless I find a really good deal on a new one. I am also looking for a mountain bike or possibly some sort of half-breed, if that is the correct terminology. Anyway, are there any particular companies that make relatively good bikes for a low price? What sort of things should I look for in a bike, in terms of materials, and componenets? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks alot.

Why not ship your Specialized? Shipping to and from (back home) shouldn't be more than $200-$250.

Seems like Gary Fisher and Bianchia both have entry level MTB and Hybrids for ~$300 new so finding a used one in you price range should be doable. I haven't lived near Boston for almost 3 decades so can't give any ideas of where to look there. Of course there is ebay, but I like looking touching etc befor I buy.

The is an "Old Spokes Home" used bicycle shop in Burlington Vermont.

Because I will want something to ride when I go home as well, and I don't really want an expensive bike here in Boston. I will probably end up riding it to school sometimes, and I'll have to lock it up and whatnot.

Hello, I will join you with my first post. Ive been looking for a bike in that price range to transform into my wet weather only commuter bike.
