Hi there fellow cyclists,

It is a pleasure to join this on-line forum business, actually my first. I live in Oxford, UK and enjoy cycling almost every day of the week, as it is my main means of transport. It is also the easiest way to travel around this beautiful old city. I work out of town and my daily commute is a ride of about 8 miles each way. I work in a small scientific research company as a research physicist.

I enjoy riding around the county of Oxfordshire, as there are many quiet country lanes. One can also choose to stay on the flat, or venture into the Cotswolds for some climbing - but there are no mountains! Recently I took part in a charity ride of 75 miles, which is the furthest I have ridden in one day - took me about 5 hours. I would like to break the 100 mile barrier some time in the not too distant future.

I'm lucky enough to have two road bikes, the first of which is based around the repainted steel frame from an old 1980's Peugeot - rebuilt with upgrades as original parts wore out.... and my enthusiasm for cycling grew. It is still quite a basic bike - 10 speeds, shift levers on the down tube - but it is special to me, simple to look after and rides nicely. My other bike is a Dawes Giro 400 - Aluminium frame, Shimano Sora hardware etc. This is lovely machine, but in 18 months there have been a few problems, particularly with bearings, but it is hard to keep the rain out of things here in the UK! Having two bikes helps to make sure that I can make it to work....

I enjoy the technical side of bikes too, so prefer to do my own maintainance. I have seen most things wear out or go wrong (perhaps one of the bike companies would like to sponsor me as a test rider?) One thing I like about the forum is that folks share their knowledge and experience, and I hope to be able to do the same.

Happy and safe riding,

Ed

Hi Ed,

Welcome to the forums :) You'll find lots of helpful advice here and some pretty nice folks...I guess Oxford was pretty busy what with the Grand Prix up your way at the weekend...

Cheers

Rich

Hello Ed.

I was up in Oxford a few months ago to watch a rugby match and I can honestly say it looks like an excellent place, and it was nice to see so many bikes around.

Hope you enjoy it here.
