Mountain Biking - I have the answer to squeaky discs.

Ok, so I got my mountainbike back from the shop today and I was riding and I had no stopping power so when I do actually stop using my back brake, the back brake goes errrrrrrrrrrrwaaaaaaaaaaaaaadeoooooooeeeeeeeee and I wasd like no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so I brought my bike back to my house and noticed that my rear rotor was just straight black, as if he pads melted on to the rotor. So I hosed the rotor down, ride it a little bit and I used the back brake and there was no more squeak. I don't know if anybody did this but it worked for me. I really hosed it down good. That was fun.

I just used it on the rotor, not directly ont hte bearings anyway my hubs are really sealed well. They have that little rubber thing that is really hard to get off.

That doesn't mean that your hubs are sealed really well. Water has a way of finding a way into pretty much anything if you use pressure around it.

So are you saying that you just cleaned the rotor because it was dirty? If so isn't that pretty much common sense?

Why not just pull off the wheel and unbolt the disk. That way you can scrub it all you want with some good cleaner and not worry about fouling anything up.

Because messing around with 6 short T25 torx bolts that have been loctite'd in place is a royal pain in the rear. The only method I advocate for cleaning rotors is denatured alcohol on either a clean rag or some cotton balls

brake cleaner is used for cleaning brakes & electrical components (thats why usually it will say brake/electrical parts cleaner on can).very safe for cleaning a steel rotor on a bike.
apply to a shop rag & wipe clean.If not simply clean up w/ some lite sand paper.......

Look at your owner's manuals people.
It says Denatured (some will say rubbing) Alcohol. It does not say: Automotive Brake Cleaner, or gasoline, or even Moose Piss.

It isn't about the rotor being affected its the pads
