General Cycling Discussion - Paging all German's at Bikeforums

Me and a cycling buddy want to get a Telekom Jersey. However, the sizes are 4-9. My buddy wears a Large, and I wear a Medium. Can you guys help us out? Also, the said website says they are 50 Euro's, which is 49.34 USD(shipping not included). Is this a accurate conversion?

I'll see what I can do to check out the sizing question. My suspicion is that a large would be about 8 or 9 and a medium would be 7. The 4-9 doesn't conform to normal shirt sizing. I think it might conform to underwear (tops and bottoms) sizing.

As far as the price is concerned, yes 50 Euro is would be just shy of $50. Today, the exchange rate sits at about .985, which would make 50 Eur = $48.75. So $49.34 is a fair price. (Don't sweat a difference of a few per cent given daily fluctuations and the banks' taking a cut).

I'll try to get back to you on the sizing in a day or so.

Fubar... sounds like Euro-sizing. The problem is that these sizes tend to varry from manufacturer to manufacturer. Nalini's sizing is like this:

2 - S - 30-32
3 - M -34-36
4 - L - 36-38
5 - XL - 38-40
6 - XXL - 40-42
7 - XXXL - 44-46
8 - XXXXL - 48-50

As you can see, Euro sizing tends to run a bit smaller than American sizing. An American medium would correspond to a Euro 5/XL, while an American large would correspond to 6/XXL. Now, these are sizes for Nalini, I can't say for the Telekom Jersey, which is made by Adidas. However, you might get some info at Adidas Cycling's Web site. (http://www.adidascycling.com/)

Will a German based website take an American credit card? The website I''m looking at is the Telekom fanshop website.

Credit cards are all pretty international nowadays - visa is just about worldwide, Amex slightly more limited, but that's because of the commission they charge

I haven’t had the time to go to a shop, but I did look at the fanshop website.

1. I found a table which shows the sizes. They don’t give any connections to American sizes, but they do give connections to regular German ones. As I suspected, the numbers that they use are the same that I know from buying underwear and undershirts here. (By the way, I think the sizes posted by Velocipedio are Italian, not German. In some things, the Europeans have cross-continental standards. In clothing, in my experience, they definitely do not.)

I would typically wear a small to medium in U.S. sizes. This means that I usually buy underwear/t-shirts of size 5. In their table, this corresponds to a 48, which is indeed my German blazer size. If it helps, I wear typically a blazer with American sizes 36-38. (I’m 5’8” with 30” waist).

So, my conclusion is that for a medium, you should order a 6 or 7. For a large, a 7 or 8. You’ll have to ask yourself whether you are on the smaller or larger side of medium. I would think a 9 would definitely be an XL if not an XXL in American sizing.

2. I also pretended to order the jersey to see about the credit card. Yes, they do take Visa, Mastercard, or AmEx. You will be asked for this at the very end of the transaction. On the page where you put in your shipping information, there is a list for the means of payment. You should obviously choose the “direct credit-card payment” (or something like that—I did it in German, then I realized later it would have been smarter to do it in English).

By the way, you cannot assume that American credit cards will work here. The Eurocard system dominates on the continent, or at least in Germany. I know of only a few stores in Bonn which would take a Visa card. Although they do work in virtually all the ATMs.

Good luck with the purchase. I would be tempted to buy a Telekom jersey myself, but the main offices of Telekom are all in Bonn. So, magenta Ts appear all over the city and every 3rd person you meat works for Deutsche Telekom. Even our subway has a so-called "Telekom Express" which is painted Magenta with the Pink Panther on it and everything. But, in the U.S., it would definitely be a cool thing to wear (and a bit subversive, I might add!!!).
