Mountain Biking - rock shox, marzocchi, or manitou

if you had to choose the best brand out of rock shox, marzocchi, or manitou which would it be.

I like generally like Marzocchi and Fox, but it all depends on what type of riding...

Right now, If i could afford it i would go for some fox stuff man, its amazing, at least the shocks they have at the LBS..But ive always had luck with Manitou..

What kind of riding do you need a new fork for?

there is no way to say which is best, they are all good, and have different strong points.
marzocchi is proven to work... they build forks that preform and if anything breaks they have great customer service. the higher end manitous are great, smooth but their designs change alot, so finding parts may be a bit hard. Rock shox has been around forever. all the forks exsept the judy are great, they finally did some revamping to the line this year, and they make a fork that preforms well .

I'd take the 'Zocchi, and secondly the Manipoo. I hate Rock shox because of the poor experience I've had with them, and I don't like the design very much.

was it by change a bad experiance with a judy? rockshox's high end forks are very nice.... dont judge a company by its worst fork

How are White Bros shocks - the air versions, in particular?

I like the Higher end manitou stuff so if I had the choice again I woud choose them (again) The pike from rockshox and the 66rc's are pretty mjuch on par for me... I dont really have a favourite and so marzocchi and rockshox are equal to me.

Ill take a Marzocchi over anything. Allthough the Pike looks pretty nice too.

I got a Reba recently. Mostly for price. All other comparable forks were hundreds more.

From my experience, the best fork I have ever felt was either a perfectly tuned Dorado or a Fox40RC2. Ironically one of the worst forks I have ever felt was a Dorado.... It all depends on how the fork is set up.

I feel for me, Marzocchi's are the best fork around, my mates shiver has been abused, raced, hucked for 4 years straight and he only know is starting to have trouble with them, he does get them well looked after though. Most marzocchi's are set and forget.

Fox forks feel oh so good...... I only have experience with the 40RC2, it was so adjustable and nice, but you have to think how they can be twice as big as it's competitors and still be lighter. There have been a couplke of instances of these forks cracking... but ALL instances had reasonable reasons so don't start saying the fork is weak. Also they were ridden by Aussies and we are too crazy for just any fork and it's a race fork, not a freeride fork.

Manitou's have the ability to feel oh so good, but they can feel like a piece of..... the Dorado feels very, very good when set up right, but they need to be serviced alot. They are definately not a set and forget component.

Rock Shox, have one of the greates reputations in the cycling world. HAve had many great forks and feel pretty good. Best Rock shock I ever felt was a Boxxer WC with mojo internals... can anyone say butter? Boxxers are light, and good working race forks. I am yet to feel a set of 05 Boxxers yet, except for the mojo'd one. But they have an old dampening system and tend to spike at speed. Also my mate has been haveing alot of troubles with his, cracked em, dampening problems and all on Teams which have not been abused in any sense of the word.

I tend to like RS and Manitou because ive never had a bad experience with either, and I keep my forks in good shape. The only complaint ive had with RS is the weak threaded holes on the thru-axle. Havent been able to find a decent sized tap, and I would have to replace the lowers considering ive stripped out all but 1 hole. However, times have changed since ive gotten a torque-wrench :D. Marz is good if you are lazy, and just like to set it and ride, maybe just a few external setting every once in a while. Havent had a chance to try out the new foxes though, should at some races this year though...

I've tried the Pike, Pilot, SID and Judy and didn't like any of them.

Many people over here use the pike as its such a great all round fork... Not to mention that the pike is in no way in the same league as a judy or a pilot sl as theyre both shocking...

I like my SID frm rockshox. It is the only fork i know of that is sub 3 pounds. Perfect for my XC machine. Some say that it flexes a great deal but i dont think i even notice it, it makes most climbs much easier, especially the lockout. But htis is only for the SID here, i dont know about the Pike or Reba
