Mountain Biking - rear shock mud flap?

I've heard people talk about a rear shock "cover" or "boot" that is supposed to help keep dirt and mud from the rear shock but have never seen one. do these things exist? if so, do they work? are they bike specific? i ride a 05 stumpjumper expert 120. thanks in advance.

Lizard skin...Thats what i have on my stumpy..Works well and looks aight too..

I have a lizard skins chainstay guard and shock guard... on my ****ty X-mart bike :P

Yes they do. Yes they work. No you cut them to fit.

specialized makes an actual mudflap, not a boot mind you i have one for my 03 enduro and it looks pretty sexyif you ask me the pictures of it on the web site(if they are still there) don't do it justice. unfortunatly i don't think they make one for the stumpy, if that's true you might want to try using the enduro one, it might work ok they are about $12

by the way raiyn, i went with the clear plastic tubing for the chainstay it looks better on your bike but i think it's going to protect against chipping very well since it's a custom fit although it's not as quiet as neoprene. thank for the idea

Did you get the water supply hose type or something harder? I use water supply hose that's about 3mm thick and 22mm O.D. When it is split down the back it wraps top and bottom but doesn't interfere with tire width

I'm pretty sure it's the water supply type, but i wish it was a little softer to keep the noise down better. the most important thing to me is that it will protect the that pivot area that one of the jockey wheels has chipped down to the bone
