Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Anyone Down For Late Night Alleycats In Nyc.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This thread is somewhat related to "who enjoys riding through nyc late at night", and someone suggested that we should organize a alleycat. This is going to be one of things that will most likely start in betw. 1-2am with various check points throughout the city. Anyone interested feel free to reply. Also I should say that for now there might only be a 1st place prize of booze, as I am broke, and am only doing this for the fun of it.

Maybe one of the local establishments would be willing to throw down a lil support, if there was enough interest being generated by willing participants.

The ride could get real interesting, if it highlights spots that are a different experience to ride at night - for instance, there's gotta be a central park section. And it all ends up at a nice cushy spot pre-designated for festivizin. Sounds like a fun evening.

it'll be hard to get checkpoint people for that late. what if you have to go into x,y and z bars and get something there (like a flyer that we would give the bar beforehand) instead? that could work.

btw, despite the time of this posting, i am usually asleep by 11, so my vote would be for a weekend race. maybe we could get a bunch of blinkie lights donated by someone. i think TA would donate some. . .

won it all, thanks to you (and lightgraphs' boss for making him miss tonight). i used the wheels on the fuji (sorry, no time to switch it all over). awesome wheels. what a difference! it was a physical and mental boost to ride those things, and i only inflated them to 160. i'm spoiled, i can't go back to clinchers!

I'm down. I moved here from milwaukee not too long ago and haven't done a race yet, so i may not be the quickest, but since cmwc is a bit out of my league, i'll hit up anything else with bells on.

the skinny is that they are dura-ace hubs laced to 32 bladed sew-ups. sew-ups are the s**t for the track. super light and zero inertial wieght. ZERO! my street wheels are three times as heavy. easy.

plus, 190! psi. chew on it, everyone else did!

talking trash, now that i can!

one way to avoid the need for checkpoint people is to have scavenger checkpoints. you arrive at the scene and have to answer a question on your manifest that you wouldn't necessarily know off hand. maybe a fun thing would be to incorporate flashlights. (tell me what's hidden under car #4)

I am psyched that everyone is contributing something to this. Since this thread stemmed off of another one about late night riding in nyc, I wanted to meet anyone interested in the late night alleycats, and meet at unoin sq. at 1am(rain permitting) This is about the time I will be hopefully getting off of work. We can meet on the 14th st. side union, in front of the steps. I ride a 55cm, blk, older bianchi psita, w/ sea foam green lettering, and 36cm bars. I would like to get the ball rolling on this, and not just make it all talk. If you want to get in touch with me, you can reach me at omarparker@tmo.blackberry.net.

Msngr, for the only time last night, I beat you, as I tagged 3am. Those 6 pints topped off the fine and strong 'ritas quite nicely, thank you.

Nice dining with you fine folks...

Next mission - to jack your new wheels.

If anyone of you drop by central park at 2am, wear your blinkers, and catch a game of midnight frisbee with those glow in the dark ones.
