Does anyone know what brand of chain this is? I saw it on one of the recent bikes in the fgg and I like the way ity looks and would consider it for my fixie conversion....any ideas? thanks

that's a wipperman 1g8 bmx chain

http://www.connexchain.com/

A buddy just built up a bike with one of those. That chain weighed more than both his vintage record track hubs laced to velocity tubular rims. In other words, its really f'ing heavy.

Looks like a Wipperman Connex IG8. They also make them with red and blue sideplates.

Unless you're pulling grinds on your fixed-gear, it's probably beefier than you'll ever need. But it does look cool.

I didn't know anything about it I just thought it looked pretty sweet...definitely way more than I would ever need...i still think it looks pretty damn tough....thanks

650gm and around $50 retail. That's a lotta chain.

If you like odd chains, check out Shadow Conspiracy. All half links, makes hardly any sound because of the ease with which it wraps around the cog, and they look cool. I have one on my KHS Aero.

One thing to consider (we've sold these before and I rode a red one on my old SS MTB). The paint doesn't last if you use it year round. It looks amazing now, but it will fade/chip.

Wipperman chains really are awesome though!

If you like the black/silver scheme, HKK's vertex chains have it. Izumi's, too (black/gold).

That chain is overkill even if your doing chain grinds.

I have one and dig it thoroughly. However, some caveats. It will not fit properly into even a beefy shop chain to (ie Park CT-3). It is super-wide and I wouldn't recommend using it with less than an 18t cog unless you like abrading your spokes. Not a big thing, but they are noisy. Finally, it is short. When I got it, I was going to change my gearing to 48x18, but had to stay at 45x18 because that's how long othe chain was.

Still, it is the most badassed chain I have ever seen.

They're a little pricey, but IMHO, worth it. Mine was completely silent after I lubed it, and it looks really cool. I've ridden KMC, Izumi, and HKK chains and this one is faaaar quieter. Also, don't try to take links out with a mini-tool, the pins are super strong. You need to have a real chain breaker for this thing, fortunately it comes with a master pin that isn't as burly as the rest.

I ordered mine from some place called bmxskateshop.com and the bastards never sent it. I talked to Ron at Shadow Conspiracy (he sponsored my race a month ago) and he sent me one since they never did.

I've never heard of Shadow Conspiracy, but KMC just came out with a "pintle" version of their Z410 chain that's practically identical. In fact, I'd be surprised if the Shadow Conspiracy chain wasn't a KMC chain with another label.

Looks pretty cool with nothing but a bunch of U-shaped half-links. KMC's pintle chain should retail for under $30.

Note that KMC's pintle chain is only 95 links long, so make sure it's long enough for you before you buy.

According to the guys at Shadow, the KMC is a cheap version of their chain, and they're a little pissed about it because they think that people will break the KMC and then have a low opinion of all half-link chains. Theirs has been out for over a year now, and they say that they've done extensive testing on it and competitor copies of it, and apparently theirs is muuuch stronger(like several factors of ten). This is from many phone convos I've had with them.

The finish on the Shadow chain is also very nice. Each individual link has "The Shadow Conspiracy" etched around the pin. I don't think it's a rebranded KMC.

thanks, these look good. seems like they would offer more choices when adjusting chain tension too...

It's a really nice chain, and yeah, you can really get your wheel close in to your seat-tube because it's all half-links, but watch out, I'm serious about the chainbreaker. Those pins are super-strong. I almost broke my alien mini-tool chain breaker trying to take a link out. You really need a real chain-tool for that thing, it's damn strong.

What gear ratio are you running on your KHS? I ask because I've been looking at that chain for a while and am concerned with whether it's long enough for my set up.

It's probably long enough, I run 49x18 and it's perfect on my 57cm KHS aero.

Thanks! That's what I wanted to hear. (48x17 on a 56cm Gunnar)

how much does the shadow conspiracy chain weigh? is it on the heavy, or light side?
