Mountain Biking - Resonation in front wheel at 15mph +

Hello

I am getting a whrr whrr whaaaa ect..... that resonates when I am at speeds > 15mph otherwise it's pretty quiet. I have checked the brakes and they look adjusted fine, the rim is true and the spindle has no bends or anything. The sound becomes more pronounced when I turn – the tires appear fine and there is nothing on them. Do I just have a hosed hub or? Thanks for any help.

I got my new bike a couple of weeks ago and was getting the same thing.. (Trek 6500) For me it was the reflectors on the tires that was causing it and I'm glad I saw it mentioned in a previous post here.. I 1st called the shop right away and they said "Oh that's just because of the knobby tires on your mountain bike" Still didn't seem right so I took off the reflectors and that did it. I don't hear anything now.. That might not be the problem but it sure worked for me.... Or maybe it is the knobby tires like my shop mentioned...

yeha the reflector on my 4500 did the same thing. take it off or slide it twards the hub more to wedge it betwene 3 spokes better.

I had that sensation from a lose headset before too.. and you couldn't tell it was loose when sittin on the bike.. hit me on a 40+ mph down hill and scared the heck out of me..

And my bike does that on pavement , seems to be the tires.
Though I haven't played with the reflector at all, maybe I'll try that too.
Does this happen in general, or just on pavement?

i think it might just be the outer tread thats rubbing when you turn...

Yeah you need to drop your transfercase. The UJ is at a bad angle...

Naw, its the cat convertor..

My tires whir alot on pavement,its the knobs for me, as soon as i hit dirt the sound is gone..

Actually, it might be the muffler bearings...

I didnt think of that...

It might also be the motor mounts..or even the CV jooints

And what's wrong with keeping people on their toes? You folks shouldn't be running reflectors anyway.

Plastic reflectors as a whole are a waste of weight, time, energy, and space, on a dual purpose bike plus they end up as trail litter.
What you should do is get some Reflective Tape
and apply like so to the frame:

This way there's nothing to break off and you have reflectors. Everyone is happy.

Sorry to take so long to get back, I am going to try the reflectors. I did think that this may be the issue but didn't try it yet. Thanks for the suggestions and the humor, I will also be getting some tranny fluid and soking my front hub in it, haa ha hah ha h :eek: -joke

mine does it in the rear...I have an 8 inch rotor and that resonates between the pads at certain speeds. To give you an idea of the sound...its like a kx500 with a loose muffler spring.

It was the reflector - will be buying some tape for my wheels. Thanks all
