Hey,
I've been out of the cycling world for about 5 years. That was when my Trek 8500 MTB was ripped off. It was a great bike, Spinergy wheels, Rock Shock, XT, Kore, and so on. Top end stuff.
Late last year I developed some health problems, and gained some weight. Not all of it was due to my health condition. Most of it was due to the fact that I'd become a lazy fat ass. After being discharged from the hospital a while back, I decided it was time to get my health, and waistline back in order. Healthwise, something is going on with my brain. Abnormal CAT scans, mild seizures, so on. Oh, and I used to smoke. I smoked a lot. I quit after my first abnormal CAT scan. Thank God it's not cancer or a tumor. I've been smoke free for almost a year now.
I bought a GT ZR 5.0 on clearance from Performance Bike. Normally $600-$650, I got it for $329. I piddled around for a week or so, and then started riding about 75 miles a week regularly. I ride to and from work, and have started riding extra distance in the morning. I also ride to and from the store, or to my dad's, whatever. I have stopped using the car for short trips. In the last month I've racked up about 350 miles. I'm hoping to have that 75 a week up to 125 to 150 a week soon, both through street riding and with a trainer. In a few days I'm going on vacation for 2 weeks, and my bike is going with me. The hills of Virginia and Tennessee should keep me busy. And tired. And sore.
I also like to do my own work on whatever I own. Since buying the bike I have added Wellgo clipless pedals, a Selle Italia Flite Trans Am MAX seat, Shimano R535 wheel set, and I also converted the threaded CroMoly fork to a threadless Time Carbon Fiber unit. I used the standard Aheadset bearings and a Kore stem. I'm waiting on a Kore seatpost, and some Ti Kore skewers. Replacing the fork cut some serious weight. Next on my list is converting the drivetrain to 9spds, and upgrading all that goes with that. I'm saddled with some mushy Sora components. Most likely I'll go with the Ultegra. Can't wait for that. Riding everyday and climbing the hills I do, those components have gotta go.
Anyway, just wanted to say hey, give some info on me, and show my bike.
I'm also into computers, landscaping and yardwork, Jeepin' or off roading, and I do a lot of welding in my garage.
