Good morning. I am Steve from Western Kansas. I have recently become very interested in biking. My interest falls mainly in the road bike category and I am considering something along the lines of "Biking Across Kansas" in the future. I have given myself a year to train and know that I will have to start slow and work up. I wish to use these forums to find out information about bike selection, local rides or riders and training. Thanks in advance for any help that anyone provides.
Steve

Welcome Steve. Sounds like a worthy goal.
There's lots of good road bike info here.
Have you researched any brands?
What's your budget?

Hi Ron.

Thanks for the quick reply.

From the bit of reading that I have been doing I am almost leaning towards Trek. I am looking in the $1000. range. I think the 1200 or maybe the 1500 if I can get a deal and maybe spend a bit more. It seems from what I have read that I can get more bang from my buck with Trek than with some other brands for the money that I am looking at.

What do you think? Am I in the ballpark or do you have a few other suggestions? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Steve

Hi SMHall and welcome to the Forums. I am really happy with my Specialized Allez. The Sora components get no respect, but I have never had a problem with them and the bike is a joy to ride. It ran me about $700 as I recall. I have a soft spot in my heart for Treks, though. It's my Wisconsin heritage...
