Hi. My name is Josh. I live, work, and ride in Chicago. I got back on a bike about two and a half months ago, and it has been one of the best decisions I ever made. I bought myself a new bike ( a Trek 4100 Mtb), but over the past couple of weeks my priorities have changed a little and I've been trying to sell my bike in order to buy a road bike. I like city riding, and eventually I'd like to work my way up to riding longer distances and maybe do some touring.
Today, on my way to work, I took my first real spill. A guy came running out from between two parked cars, and I stopped short to keep from hitting him. I went down pretty hard and my bike came down on top of me. The paint is chipped in a few spots, the seat has a little scuff mark, and one of my brake levers is bent all out of whack. In addition I have a nasty bruise on my upper thigh and some real nice road rash on my left arm from my wrist to my elbow. After getting up, catching my breath, and regaining my composure I got back on my bike and rode the rest of the way to work (about 2.5 miles from the site of my fall). This may sound a bit naive, but after I was certain that I wasn't seriously hurt, I felt tough. I felt tough in a way that I am not accustomed to feeling. It was exhilirating.
That's all for now.

You should feel tough..That can be a bit demoralizing when you slam like that, but you got up, assessed your situation and rode on...Good for you. One of the things I love about my bike is that while riding I sometimes get that "tough" feeling. Not even in an ego way like, "I'm tough, watch out." But simply that I am proud of the choices I am making.
Good stuff, and welcome!

Thanks for the encouragement. There's nothing better than agreeing with your own choices after the fact.
Also, just incidentally, I was listening to The Soft Bulletin when I read your reply to my post.

JoshH - Awesome. Pick out the grit, stop the bleeding and MOVE ON!! I hope I never have to do that, but if I do, I hope I am as cool a customer as you.

With the macho stuff out of the way, welcome to the Forums!!
