GOOD MORNING,

darkmother if you read this Thank YOU for the fork mount cable hanger suggestion for my canti problem.

I thought I had it solved when I put on better brakes!! It was much better with the paul vs the tektro brake but still noisy and some chatter once set up for the strongest braking.

unfortunatly I could not find a fork mount cable hanger anywhere Or at least the 7 shops that I tried.

I ended up making a fork mount Hanger out of an angle bracket from the hardware store, its not beautiful but it doesnt look too bad either , but the important thing is it works.

actually instead of using it alone Im still using the steering tube hanger and just ran bare cable through an aluminum adjuster on the fork mount I made , so im using both.

all I can say is that it made all the difference in the world The brakes are nice and quiet no chatter and much smoother. Im amazed at the difference. I only wish I could find a original fork mount hanger rather than My cob job. I may be forced to fabricate a pretty one out of SS.

As for the shops I checked with 7 shops by me ,when I asked for a fork mount hanger most replied /asked in return if I wanted a 1 1/8" or 1 " then I said no I need a fork mount hanger THE reply was "I never heard of one" all we have are round ones.

2 shops decided to probe why I wanted such a thing, one shop said that fork mount hangers are no longer made and are dangerous thus he got rid of them and told me that it wont solve my brake problem! he told me I just have to toe in the pads or get better pads.

one of the shops when I told him that I tried all diff types of pads and all diif ways to set them up asked what Brake I was using I said a Paul canti at the moment.

He said , "Oh thats why you have problems!! Paul brakes are notorious for acting up and chattering We dont like them here" I mentioned I tried 2 other cantis as well and the paul was the quietest.

he then said "you should just come in and we can set you up with a good pair of shimano V brakes and all your problems will be gone".
I asked HIM if he had travel agents in stock so I can use my road levers /bars and he said "HUH? Travel Agent?? , Hmm ah no you'd have to use MTB levers and change your bar to a flat one."

AS USUAL no clue!!!!!

why do I ever bother to try the LOCAL shops for anything other than cables??? Its always a aggrevating experience.

Good grief I even bought some cables at one of the shops where Ive spent a fair amount of money and asked for some crimps You would of thought I wanted his first born!!

not all shops are AFU BUT the ones close to me are!!

Have a great day

"John"

Hey, I love that idea - make your own fork mount cable hanger. There's my next weekend project.

I have tried two LBS's trying to find one, and both took my name and phone number and never called me back. I even gave them the tektro part number, they could have charged me triple what it cost them and I would have paid it. It's frustrating when you're trying to give a LBS your money and they won't take it. If it's not worth their time, I wish they would tell me up front.

I hear ya!!

when they ask for my Number I just thank them and will try another road! In my opinion it seems that shops that cater to the weekend/casual Ride crowd are not interested in selling parts or getting special order stuff.

if you dont want a new bike or a tune up there is not much they want do for you.

I spent as much $ building this cross bike (for commuting) than a new bike would have almost been.

maybe a bit more as Ive been playing with things and experimenting, no shops by me were interested in ordering parts for this build up.

they wanted me in a Stock 24 gear Hybrid with a shock fork / adjustable stem or a $2,000 carbon road bike.

Build up a bike OH (sigh) Ok heres a catalog, I have to go cuz I see somone that wants to test ride a hybrid OH BOY!!

actually the shop I bought my frame and many parts from is very good but is 1.5 hours away from me.

Id like to have a ready made hanger but to no avail.

I just took an angle bracket and bent it in a vise and cut the top end off , the holes are already in it.

It worked great!!!!! not pretty but very functional. again I was amazed how nice my brakes are now.

its only about 2.5" difference in support but it worked!!

Glad it worked out for you! I was really surprised that it fixed the chatter problem too, it doesn't seem like it would work at all. One of my bikes came with a fork mounted hanger on it, I can see if the shop has more-I suspect they do. I could mail you one if you like.
