I have a 2004 raleigh c40 with a rack on it. I have just unsuccessfully tried to put planet bike fenders on it and the rear fender does not fit at all. It is a 17inch bike and the rear fender does not fit. The fron fender is fine - does anyone have a suggestion as to what other brand fender will fit under a rack? the problem with the freddy fender is that it rubs at the part on the bike right under/near the seatpost - where it is supposed to screw into the eyelet that is there - just not enough room and fender rubs tire. Quitefrustrating on top of the fact that fenders for 20 inch folder also are not working out. Thanks.

So there's not enough room between the frame and the fender, right?

The rack should catch enough spray to do double duty as a fender. So I'd say just forget mounting the Freddy. A couple companies make mudguards that strap onto the frame. You could mount one on the seat tube to block the forward spray off the rear tire. Then you could just mount a piece of plastic or heavy rubber to the rear of your rack to catch the rooster tail off the tire.

Attached is a pic of one of the mudguards.

Do you have a LBS or another store like REI? I had a really tight fit on my last mountain bike for fenders and a rack so I just brought it in and we trial fit a bunch of them in a row until we found a pair that fit.

Unfortunately without owning the bike/rack combo you have currently that's the only bit of advice I can give on it unless you want to roll your own fenders.

Take a plastic rear fender that comes in 2 parts (or cut one into 2 parts), drill holes in the right places and tie rap the front piece between the rack and down tube; and the back piece to the back of the rack.

This has worked great for me.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. A more mechanically talented and tool laden friend came over and cut a small square in the plastic where the fender mashed into the bike frame - now it works great. If that hadn't worked we were going to try to make it a two part fender.

If you have a rack, just take an old license plate and mount it under the rack, then you have a cheap fender, I did this on my back-up bike. How I have it on my bike I use every day is little attachment that hold on to the rack, the LBS should have some, great if you have a disk brake, and less of the metal rods.

Good Luck,
