What is considered the easiest, safest recumbent to ride? I heard possibly its the compact long wheel? Any thoughts? CJ

A trike. You don't even have to balance!

We were originally looking at folding bikes to take with us in our RV, now all of a sudden we're interested in recumbents, go figure, hehe. My husband rode a Cycle Genius ALX I think it was and luved it, so we're still up in the air. I like the idea of a trike but want something we'll be able to bring with us on our trips. :o) PS, I don't like the low ones tho, any input would be greatly appreciated. Hoping to buy soon.

Heh, unfortunately most trikes are quite low to the ground.

Greenspeed makes a folding trike, they even make a folding tandem trike. The downside here is the excessive price....

Just wanted to let you know that I also just bought my first recumbent, and I bought the Cycle Genius ALX that your husband rode and just LOVE it.

I'm glad to hear you like your Cycle Genius, I think thats the one my husband is going to get. He's been talking about it constantly when he gets home the last few days ever since he rode last week on it hehe. I on the other hand don't know which one for me yet. I sat on the ALX and it felt too large for me. Good luck with your new bike and thanks for the reply! CJ

Green Speed make a few folding trikes Ie. GT3, GT5 etc.
They are resonably low but still easy to get in and out of.

I tried a number of recumbents when I was first starting out and found the easiest for a new learner was the EZ-Sport. There is almost NO learning curve and the bike is very comfortable.

Sounds like me.

I have to chime in for the EZ-Sport as well. My wife isn't overly comfortable on a bike to begin with, and she does quite well on the EZ-Sport, thank you very much! I've ridden it a little, and find it pretty easy to get on in ride, but I have nothing to compare it to. She tried several different bikes, our local dealer specializes in 'bents, and she was by far the most comfortable (meaning from an "I can do this" standpoint) on the EZ.

The EZ-1 AX and the CG are compatable. Both are very easy to get used to, Veru docile and predictable. Not fast but a great get accquainted bent. Good resale value on the aluminum models. Stay away from the steel ones, they ride similar but the aluminium models of both have a better component group as well as less weight.

Well if you're going for the EZ-Sport as a recumbent http://www.easyracers.com/ez_sport_limited.htm for about $US 900 then maybe you should consider the Schwinn Spoiler http://www.schwinnstingray.com/bike-spoiler.html for $US 550 as a recumbent - Harley Cruiser Recumbent that is... but that 4.25" wide rear tire is a bit much, and one speed is no speed to me. LOL :D

Or maybe you could actually ride those two bikes and then report back. I'm sure you're trying to be funny, but in my view you failed.

Here's some more:

RANS Tailwind
EasyRacers EZ-1 SC and EZ-1 SC Lite
EZ Sport LE
BikeE (CTs are simplest/lightest)

I think the BikeE was the easiest Bent to learn but unfortunately, the company that sold the most recumbents went bankrupt! You have to take out a mortgage to own a Big HA!

I also agree with the Rans Tailwind being a very easy bent and to my surprise, the EZ-1 Lite was right there and I like this more than the Tailwind because the handlebar didn't flex all over the place! The easiest bents to ride are the ones with dual 20' inch wheels where the cranks are low in relation to your body.

One of the reasons I choose the EZ Sport was that the learning curve was next to nothing and I got right on it and rode as easy as if I was on my hybrid.

I'd say the BikeE. The non-suspension one. To bad they are out of business.

I've been able to pick up three of them.

The BikeE is my rain/commute/grocery/Critical Mass recumbent.

My Bacchetta Aero is my rocket ship. But I wouldn't ride it everywhere or leave it anywhere.
