Foo - Did I hear this right?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was talking to my mom on the phone the other day and she said she was reading an article in Outdoor magazine about Lance. She said the article said that this tour will be his last and that he is thinking of running for Governor of Texas??!! Have you heard about this?
Hell...I'd vote for him. Think of what he could do for cyclist rights!
if he ran im pretty sure he would win... people love him
Yes, he is retiring but I'm not sure he is running for Govenor. I just read Sports Ill. and he is on the cover, he said that he is going to be Sheryl Crows guitar boy. FUNNY.

I read the article and he did say something about running for governor, but in a very offhanded, "I'm not sure what I'm going to do w/myself, I could do just about anything after I retire," sort of way. I wouldn't take it as a serious indication of intent on his part just yet. It'd be kind of interesting though, given that he's buddies w/W., whereas Sheryl is clearly not a member of the VRWC (to put it mildly).
God, I was so involved in him that I must have skipped over that part. I hate Sheryl Crow. :D
that fool needs to run for office! maybe less of us would get run over...

I highly doubt he'll run for governor, atleast, not this term. There is some serious heavy weight punching thats going to be involved in this election, I doubt a celebratity is going to want to get involved.

okay I think you're telling me the LA is buddies with Shrub but wtd (what the devil)
is the VRWC????
He told the Outdoor writer that he would not run until after the 2006 election. I couldn't tell how serious he was, but I suppose that for the next month or so he is only thinking about one thing!
What is Lance's party?
(I am sure the potato is a Republican.)

Yeah I read that outdoor feature on him.

That would be like voting for Arnie on the basis of what he could do for actors' rights in California. It ain't ever gonna happen.

VRWC = vast right-wing conspiracy
This is a joke right? Lance for governor, haha?
It was bad enough that Arnold got in, we don't need another person in office just because they are famous.

hear hear! people should only get in because of the amount of money they spend on a campaign! not on fame!

Dunno. Idiots don't win major stage races; I'm sure he's plenty smart, unlike a lot of politicians. Voting for people who've achieved fame by actually dedicating themselves to being good at something and working hard at it sounds better than supporting career politicians.
Not that I'd definitely vote for him, but I'd listen to what he's got to say.

Lance could sure get it if he wanted it. No problem. And he's a right-wing ****-kicker he's got my vote or support!

Well, there is a guy named Kinky Friedman who is a country music singer running for Texas Governor now… I'd vote for L.A. But him runnning for the office is news to me.

Kinky Friedman isn't going to win but he SURE does add some spice to the mix. It will be an interesting race.

I think the real fire will be Perry and "One Tough Grandma". And it might be as bad as when Ann Richards and Clayton Williams were running. Both Perry and Strayhorn (sp?) are not afraid to open their mouths.

Not just some country singer named Kinky Friedman, but THE KINKY FRIEDMAN! Of Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys fame! He's written some great mystery novels, as well. And founded the Utopia Animal Rescue Ranch which rescues abandoned pets and animals. Personally, if I still lived in Texas my vote would be for Kinky...
"One of the great political stories in generations is about to unfold, as Richard 'Kinky' Friedman, humorist, performer, mystery writer and Texas Monthly columnist, has announced his run for the governorship of the state of Texas in 2006. Friedman certainly will bring a whole new ballgame into Austin 's capitol building, and he will do so as an Independent candidate and political amateur."

Mike and Tony debated this on PTI this afternoon. Wilbon seemed to think the juice allegations would dog Lance. Kornheiser (rightly, imho) pointed out that he's the most tested athlete in the world and he's never come up dirty and pointed out that the voters of my fair state elected an admitted steroids user.
Ain't politics fun?
You know, you Texan Democrats oughta put up a Willie and Molly ticket. I'd move to Austin just to vote that slate.
Let's keep the politics out of this.
WTF? We are discussing Lance running for office...

Um, you mean like Ronald Regan & Jesse Ventura?
Didn't say worth voting for, said worth listening to. Ronald Regan was an actor, not an occupation generally noted for high IQ. Jesse Ventura was also a performer but was a Navy SEAL before that; again, not necessarily someone I'd vote for but I guarantee I'd give 5 mins to listen to him in order to find out if he's worth voting for.
Wilbon seemed to think the juice allegations would dog Lance.
It's against my better judgement to mention this for fear of starting a flamewar, but here goes:
What, like the allegations of cocaine use ruined Bush's chance?
The problem with politics today is that it's a popularity contest; we're voting for the HS homecoming court for the US. When was the last political thinker who was elected? There are very few present-day analogues of Paine and Jefferson, much less just some guy with common sense and integrity. So, lowering my standards a bit, I'm more likely to listen to someone who has proven competence in some field, even if it's not a guarantee of political competence, and even if it's just the ability to push the pedals hard.
[EDIT]: I agree we're moving offtopic into politics and away from cycleprincess' simple question: "Is LA running for governor?" Looking back, it looks like I started the drift. I apologize and conclude with "I hope he is, because I'd like to hear what he thinks."
All I know is that if you guys down there vote him in, I'm coming down. I just want to say that Lance Armstrong is my governor :p
