I am looking at a GIANT IGUANA , beutiful bike w/ disk brakes. Its 600 bucks. It has Shimano Deore components. Manitou Luxe shocks. Is it a good buy? The frame is supposed to be the same one as the new TREK 4500. Does anyone know if that is true?
Thanks
Gustavo
The Giant Iguana has always been a good bike for the money. It's gone through a lot of changes over the years, but value has been the one constant. Giant makes a lot of frames for other companies, so it's possible that they also make the Trek 4500.

why don't you check out XTC se3 too? It's better than Iguana, but I am not sure about the price difference.

Looks good value to me.
Don't know about 4500 but Giant certainly make some of the low end frames for Trek.
Well here is a Trek 4500:

And here is an Iguana:

Any questions? :D
Hee hee sorry I couldn't resist. I have the Trek 4500 and my husband has the Giant Yukon (a step beneath the Iguana). The iguana was a sweet bike...of course since I'm a lizard lover, I liked it for the name alone! Overall Giant strikes me as a good company. I like my Trek too, by the way.

Mountain Bike Action's current issue has a shoot-out of 7 bikes all under $700.00. They rode all types of bikes, a Redline Mono-Cog a Kona Out of Bounds, the FS Giant, a Specialized hardtail, the 4500, a Gary Fisher Tassahara, and a Jamis Dakar FS.
Granted you must take a mag's review with a grain of salt, but the 4500 was in there. They did NOT review the Giant because they just did a review of the Iguana about 2 issues ago. They chose to review the Warp instead.
Regardless, since this is about your price range, it may be worth reading the article.
BTW, the Jamis FS won the shoot-out for the best all around bike for the $$$$.
