Kids Attack Man On Bike Path
Police Seek Tips
POSTED: 9:35 pm CDT June 21, 2005
MADISON, Wis. -- Police are looking for some kids who attacked a rollerblader on a Madison bike path Monday.
Officers responded to a battery report at about 8:30 p.m. on the bike path near Verona Road. A man who was rollerblading said a group of kids pushed him down and battered him.
Police said there were two separate reports of people being battered on that stretch of bike path on Monday.
An investigation is under way. If you have information, call Crime Stoppers at 266-6014.
Good job. I think you did the right thing. I hope they get the little monsters.
I'm confused. You said in your other thread that you were riding your bike when attacked. The news story says rollerblading. Or were you the other of "two separate reports"?

Wow, weird.
My older bro used to skate, riding quads, in Waikiki which is gangland with palm trees. He could move fast and said the skates were great for bashing faces in with, knowing my bro, our environment and his abilities, I don't think he was joking.

The media gets involved and all of a sudden it's "Police are looking for..." rather than "Police say there's not much they're able or willing to do...."
getting media attention is better at resolving these things than carrying a loaded gun.

NEWS
Police investigating attacks on path near Allied Drive
00:00 am 6/22/05
Andy Hall Wisconsin State Journal
Three people were attacked by juveniles Monday in separate incidents on the Southwest Commuter Bike Path in the Allied Drive neighborhood, Madison police said Tuesday.
A juvenile was arrested in connection with one of the incidents, in which a 38-year-old man reported that he was rollerblading at 8:30 p.m. when a few youths pushed him down and battered him.
Officer Mike Hanson, a Madison Police Department spokesman, said the victim didn't require medical treatment.
Hanson said two additional people were attacked in separate incidents on the same stretch of the bike path on Monday. Details of those attacks weren't available.
Dave Wixom, a neighborhood police officer in Allied Drive, said police believe the same group of juveniles was responsible for all three attacks, which occurred between about 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on a strip of the bike path that runs between Carling and Allied drives.
"We have good leads into who they are," Wixom said. "We just haven't made the arrests. We have follow-up investigation."
Wixom said police are responding with increased patrols so would-be troublemakers will get the message that attacks are "not something that's going to be tolerated down there."

Yikes. I've gone up to that section and turned around before. I usually go up Seminole anyway, so it's no big deal to me.

If I'm on the same wavelength as oboeguy (but correct me if I'm wrong, oboeguy) the sad part is that it took the media involvement to get the police to do the job they were supposed to have done in the first place.
