I want to start to build up a bike that I can use for xc and taking drop offs and such, but still to be able to keep up reasonably on the downhilling at places like Whistler. I've been looking at a couple of frames but am kind of stumped on which one would be better to use. I am trying to find a frame either new or used for around $400-$500.
The FSR; I've rode my dads FSR and really liked it but I have read reviews about the frames that being able to put up with a lot of beating.
The K2 EVO 3.0 and 4.0; I've read reviews about the frame being good but I have never really heard about K2 besides skiis.
The GT I-Drive; Probably the 3.0 or 2.0. Again, I've read good reviews but I haven't really heard anything about GT bikes except their going out of business.
Or maybe I should use the Univega DS-900 I have and just junk all the componets and start with its frame? I just don't know if I can get enough travel out of the rear.
Any other brands I should check out? Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
