Training & Nutrition - Long Rides or Short Rides ???

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This may be the most stupid question ever but I have found myself in a situation that I don't have time to do 30 mile rides 3 times per week. So I ride 15 miles every day.. My question is: Will I be able to burn as much fat with the short ride or the long ride?? How con I use the short rides to my advantage when it comes to being a better Cyclist???? This schedule will only last for 2 to 3 weeks!!!

Do you commute to work? That will give you a chance to put on more miles.
Fat burning pretty much correlates to weekly mileage.
I am in a similar situation, with a more-than-fulltime office job and 2 toddlers. So, I commute to work everyday so I know that, no matter what, I'm going to get 40 miles a week. If I manage to sneak out of the house before everyone else gets up or maybe take a slight detour on the way home, I'm up to 75 or 80 miles. Then throw in a weekend ride, and I'm over a hundred. The point is that every mile counts and I try to look for every opportunity to grab another one.
Now, because I'm rarely able to put together a multi-hour ride, I ride most of my miles hard. I'll turn a simple commute into a time trial.
It's helped a bunch. My miles are down this year, but my fitness is only slightly down.

SpankyThere seems to be evidence that states a person will burn more calories exercising for 2 hours 3 times per week than they will exercising at the same intensity for 1 hour 6 days per week.
If you have time restrictions, ride when you can.
