I have used the Cateye Astrale 8 wired rear wheel / cadence computer on my Cross-Check. The nature of the way I abuse this rig is causing me problems with the wire. I have broken two of the wiring harnesses for this,. The wire is so thin that it seems as though looking at it cross eyed breaks it.
Cateye emailed me they do not make a heavy duty wiring harness for this model (similar to the heavier wire on the Enduro).

What have you folks tried?

If you keep all the slack wire at the head end, (Computer) and keep the wire inside the chain stays using black tape (the electricians stuff, or better yet gaffer's tape) that way your cable is protected.

Good luck.

i have an enduro 8 witht eh beefier wire on my cross rig and have had zero probs in over 1000 miles. i know it doesn't have cadence but it's something to consider.

I use a Shimano Flight Deck on the road bike and a Cateye Enduro on the mountain bike. They both fill their intended purpose very well. My cross touring bike doesn't have a computer and probably never will.

Cadence has always been for training on the road. Every sixth or eighth ride is cadence ride. Another ride out of every six or eight is a "Zone 4" or whatever heart rate ride. Beyond that I refuse to be a slave to a computer or a heart rate monitor.

If I'm touring I'll have enough gear to justify taking a GPS and speed doesn't matter much. I can't concentrate on the computer while riding mountain bike trails or racing cyclocross anyway. The only reason the mountain bike has one is to monitor distance and help find landmarks.

What exactly is gaffer's tape? And how is it better than electrical tape?

it's basically a non-reflective fabric backed tape (duct tape minus the shine). it can be in any color but black is the most popular. it's used widely in the stage and film industry.

Gaffers tape also has better adheasive, it doesnt leave a residue as much as duct tape does, and it looks a little less hillbilly than duct tape.

The cadence feature works really well on my Polar S720i (wireless)
