Classic & Vintage - Vintage Colnago Question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just picked up an early 70's Colnago Super frame. I was wondering if anyone knew how to date one of these frames. It has a chrome Colnago Super decal on the drive side chain stay. And on the seat tube it has a world champion colored decal comemerating Merckx's 72 hour record.
Thanks
Dave
dating a Colnago, like dating the prom queen, is a difficult thing. There doesn't seem to be a consistent numbering system from the factory. Pictures might help...There were a bunch of tiny details that seemed to change at about '79 or so - like bottom bracket cable routing, shape of the chainstays, fork crown, even the shape of the cutaway on the bottom bracket.
Oh, and I don't want to sound like a complete ****** but what was Merckx' 72 hour record?
well, maybe I am a little slow...you mean the Hour Record in 1972, huh?

Cut outs on lugs and which lugs matter as well.

Dating a Colnago?
A little wine, a little candlelight... let nature takes its course.
Now let's talk about something serious like Merckx' hour record:

So in an hour, the best that Boardman could do was to add 10 meters to Eddy's 49431.
Eddy turned 60 last Friday.
What a guy.
