I would love to ride my bike in the snow...Especially since I get lots of it in NY...my parents however do not let me ride my bike in the winter because they are afraid I will have problems with other cars and stopping.....do you know of anyway I can change there mind??

Winter cycling is a BLAST and SAFE!

First of all how old are you? If your not 18 you should obey your parents wish. If you get hurt they will have to pay for medical bills and god forbid, on how they would feel if you get killed. (Which is VERY unlikely)

One way is let them veiw http://www.icebike.com/Default.htm

or you can try to take short rides at first less then a mile. When they see you return safely and warm each time. After a while they will see that you enjoy it and is some what safe in bad conditions. In good conditions it's just as safe as summer riding. I think It's safer then summer riding, less traffic, and they seem to give you more room when they pass.

Lots of people think of winter cycling as madness and we must all have death wish. This is not true. We love are sport and will not let the weather stop us.

I've been riding every winter for the last 5 years. I've had my share of close calls and wipe outs( Not any more then summer) I was very careful when I started out at first and still am today.

Perhaps you could start with winter cycling on some multi-use paths do develop/demonstrate your ability to safely handle a bike in winter conditions. Once your parents are confident that riding a bike in winter isn't as difficult/dangerous as many people think, they will be more receptive to the idea.

I would also concur with Gojohnnygo... ask your parents to spend a little time on the icebike web site.

Winter riding is a blast! All the best
