Mountain Biking - GT Aggressor

Hello all. First thing first, I am new to the sport so forgive me if my ignorance shows :)

I just got my first bike in.....hmm...15 yrs (wow, sorry just shocked my self) any way.. I was at Dick's Sporting Good's this evening and was just looking around and saw a GT Agressor 1.0 for $550, with 200 bucks off and a 50 dollar sale bringing the total to 300 bucks, I have been wanting to get a bike for a while now to get back into shape and for the enjoyment of riding.

I remember when I was a teenager GT was one of the best brands, so I purchased the bike, then got home and started doing some reading up on GT and well...I am sure you all know what I found out :( and yes I know I did it backwards lol, I should have done my research first then purchased a bike, but I didnt go out to buy.

Now my question is did I make a mistake in buying this brand ? Any feedback is welcome. Thanks to every one for your time.

GT is still a good bike. At least presently anyway. For $300 bucks you couldn't get hurt too bad anyway. A lot of people are still buying GT's partly because of the good deals out there.
Forget about it and enjoy the ride! :)

I have a '99 model aggressor that was and still is a great bike(i recently bought a new g fisher).It has taken a lot of abuse and provided a lot of fun.You got a great deal.As long as you like it dont worry.Just get out and ride it!

I got a GT Avalanche 1.0 few weeks ago just like you. I did my research only after the purchase. I was a bit upset at first because I thought the frame was too small and it's too heavy, but later I got used to it and it's actually not bad. Of course if I had the chance I won't buy the same bike cus it's too heavy, but it's a good deal too.... about US588.

I Bought a GT Rebound, or a Tempest well they are the same, frame anyway.

I was told, if you can break a GT, you will break anything else, and well I dont think warranty is really an issue.

I was told Pacific was honoring a 1 year warranty.

And the lifetime warranties, were they not only on the high end frames?

As it seems right now, the manager of Dick's Sporting Good's that I dealt with seems to be ready and willing to help. He made me a rough hand written warrenty stating that Dicks would honer the warrenty that GT had, dated it and signed it. Now if that holds true or not is yet to be seen, and hopefully I wont have to find out.

Any way, just a side note here, if you live around Durham- Chapel Hill N.C and are looking for a fair deal on a bike stop in to Dick's and ask for Ed, he was very helpful and patient :) (store closed at 9:30, I didnt leave the store till shortly after 10) They sell a variety of brands, some are bike shop brands and quality, others are not, prices were fom 69$ on up to 2k.

I just refound this site after a google search on GT Agressor 1.0, forgot all about it. Just thought I would see if my log in still worked, it did lol.

BTW, bike still rides :)

Talk about a resurrected thread! I think we have a winner! Just 3 months shy of a 7 year nap, but looking perky as EVER...It's 'GT Aggressor' from 2002!!!

Now I've got that out of my system, welcome and what sort of backwoods adventures have you been on? My first mountain -ish bike was a GT Outback from about 1991. I rode that thing all over Anchorage for a few years until the only thing that didn't reveal the entry-level price was the frame. Good geometry, stiff and responsive.

hehe, I knew it was reviving a long dead thread.. but when I did a search on google for gt aggressor 1.0 and saw this post I just had to see if my log in still worked. It did.. then I had to post as I couldnt get over that it was still here. Was mainly for fun was all.

I rode the bike pretty steady for about a year and half, on various trails around here that border a state park, nice river flowing, had a blast. After that wife and I had 2 kids right after the other, combined that with the one we had already and basically hung the bike up in the garage where it would get took down on occasion for a ride around the neighborhood with the wife and kiddies as time was short. Now my oldest is starting to ride around so I grabbed the bike, aired it up, wiped it down and its in great shape for a 7 year old bike with about 2 years time on it.

I know the mid- and late- 90's GT were terrific bikes. I don't have a qualified opinion on them after that. I really liked my old entry-level outpost from about 1992. Rode it all over Anchorage for several years until only the frame and brakes still worked as they should (cassette was broken down, shifters/derailleurs wouldn't adjust anymore) Great responsive and stiff frame.
