I am a former racer in both road racing as well as multi-sport events. However, since getting married 6yrs ago, and my old bike being stolen, I have been out of the loop for some time (awful excuses I know). But, I AM BACK and in need of a little help. I need some justification for spending the $$$$ for a Giant TCR aero with Shim 105 as opposed to the OCR 1 "and eventually upgrade" by buying the parts aftermarket. Folks, my wife is a tough negotiator, and I REALLY need your help

Thank you

H

Tell your wife your thinking of buying a recumbent, you never know
she just might change her mind about your other idea.

That IS a great idea. If you can convince your wife that this can be an opportunity to create some quality time together ... well, you're one up already!

Good luck, and find a way to get it done! :D

At the risk of sounding rude, which is completely unintentional, my wife is looking for a little bit more of a technical reason to justify the purchase of the Giant TCR Aero as opposed to the OCR 1. While seeing the UPS guy or gal walk up the driveway with the newest upgrade is one of the best feelings in the world :), I am antsy to get back on the road with a quality machine.

If anyone can help me sith some technical advantages or whatever, it would be greatly appreciated.

Also, Does any one know about the frameset?, is it within the regulations for USCF sanctioned road races?

I don't know about your wife, but if it were me and my husband of many years wanted to get a nice road bike, not only would I support it, I'd BUY the bike. Why? Because it would greatly comfort me to know he wasn't buying a motorcycle instead and going through some stupid mid-life crisis....

I'd think the bike would keep you settled down right by my side.

Good luck with the mrs.

To be honest, I can't think of a single technical reason why you would choose the TCR Aero over, say, the TCR 2 [which is about $300 less] or even the TCR 1 [which is about $200 more] unless you plan to be doing a lot of time trials. Even then, Spinacis on a TCR 2 would give you pretty much the same bike except for the aero cross-section tubing and seatpost. I doubt the aero is substantially lighter than any of the TCRs, though it probably has a few pounds under the OCR1. I certainly don't think the Aero is really $600 more bike than the OCR1, in fact, unless you need all that TT kit.

Split the difference. Get the TCR 2 [if you've got your heart set on a Giant] and put the $300 you saved over the Aero towards a bike for your wife.

My wife doesn't know anything about bike, although I have been trying to convince her to learn how to ride a bike, as to buying things for my bike, it is still a very delicate item over diner, so what I do I find out when she has her good moods then I end up telling her, i wanted to buy some stuff's for my bike, ahh she would at first react negatively, but seeing me enjoy my bikeriding she is very supportive in the end.....

Come on guy....think this through!

Buy HER the good bike, then when she doesn't ride it.....Ride hers instead of buying yourself one.

This way you A). gave her a present, B). you showed her how frugal you are, and C) you got the good bike.
