Hey-
As I said in my other post, I am very new to road biking. My question is: SPD cleats and pedals should be compatible with road shoes, right? In other words, a pair of road shoes shouldn't have a problem accepting an SPD cleat if it is compatible with, say, and SPD-R cleat?
When I bought the road bike, I put on Shimano mountain style SPD pedals because I thought I could just use my mountain bike clipless shoes, and avoid the extra cost of getting another pair of clipless choes.
Right now, I am using Shimano mountain pedals(SPD) with Specialized shoes for mountain biking. I am noticing that as I do more and more road riding, the soft tread is wearing down fast. This is why I am looking to get road shoes. I don't think I should have a problem keeping the mountain style clipless pedals and simply getting road shoes to put the SPD cleat on, but I am pretty clueless when it comes to road biking in general. Any help would be appreciated!!
One more question: What are the advantages of a clipless pedal designed for the road over a clipless pedal designed for mountain biking, when riding on the road? Is it simply weight and the need to clear mud for off-roading? Or is there a bigger difference?
THANKS for all the help!
