OK, here are some annoying things about riding in summer:

1) Sunburn, especially those spots where I missed putting on the sunblock.

2) Having a tan from sleeve line to glove line

2) Mosquitoes biting when stopping

4) Every other type of bug that finds its way into my eyes, face, helmet vents

5) Snakes,, I hate snakes

6) warm water in warm bottles

7) sweat in the old eyes

8) Being distracted by joggers and simliar distractions when riding by beaches

9) people driving by with windows down and so it is easier for them to yell things, make gestures, throw things

10) the aroma of roadkill

10) the aroma of roadkill

You're not kidding! I must have passed 10 carcasses today, each more pungent than the last.

Aren't these good things? How soon we forget !! ;)

Last night after dark I turned off the bike path in favor of the road, the bugs were overpowering.
Cough cough, choke..... I could not bring myself to go past the pond.

11) Bringing into the house all the bugs that are still attached to you after a ride. Ack ! Even using the porch as a bug removal area, they still get in the house.

Now that we're well into summer there are two more things that are getting annoying.
1. Freshly oiled and graveled roads, not something that is ever a problem in winter.
2. The darn corn is getting too tall. Up until a few weeks ago when I was riding through the farm country it was easy to see traffic coming along on side roads well before you hit the intersections. Now I have to slowly inch my way into the intersections looking out for everything from cars, to other cyclists to horse and buggies. The tall corn also blocks the nice views from the roads that run along the top of ridges.

Winter commuting is just plain punishing. I do it, I've got okay gear, but I don't overly enjoy it. I'll take light, warmth, bugs, sweat, warm water, and the sun over frostbite, frozen water bottles, sleet, snow, ice, slush, salt and sand in the components.

From late May to mid-October, I am a much happier biker.

The summer is a bit better, but winter is the only time you can bike on H2O(s) (aka water). Also if you want to run someone over those studs are way more pain full then the slicks.

All winter long in Seattle we gripe, gripe, gripe about the rain, then when the sun finally comes out, we gripe that it's too hot!!! such is the human condition
