Hello, I am looking for some biking shoes suggestions. I want some shoes that are good for riding while at the same time are comfortable to wear into stores and public places. Shoes that work well for on and off the bike.

Presently, I do not use clipless pedals and that would be a consideration as well.

Thanks :)

I use Performance Traverse II. They are easy to walk in and reasonably stiff and super affordable(usually on sale for around 40$). I have commuted about 1k miles with mine including walking to and from my building and they are in great shape. They also have rubber tabs that must be cut and removed for SPD use so they would work well with regular pedals. I wear a size 10 street shoe and the size 10 shoe fit me well. Also why not get the Performance generic spds for another 35$. They have worked flawlessly for me.

This has got to be the coincidence of the week -- here are the Cannondale "Roam" (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=19961&subcategory_ID=2120) shoes I've been using on my commuter. Two weeks in and I'm just as pleased as I was the first day. Sure, it's not the same as my sweet carbon road shoes (http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCEqProduct.jsp?spid=10159), but they do their job and, most importantly, fit my wide feet.

Edit: Yeah I have the Performance generic SPDs too. Like I said, two weeks commuting (~180 miles) and I'm quite happy with them and the shoes.

Thanks for the replies. The suggestions were exactly what I was looking for. Cannondale makes both pairs of shoes. Cannondale makes nice practical stuff.

Nice .gif oboeguy.

Thanks alot.

I had a pair of Cannondale Roam shoes. Commuted in them once and promptly returned them.

My present commuter shoes are Exustar SM600 (http://www.exustar.com/sm600.htm) and Diadora Geko (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=19973&subcategory_ID=2120). The Exustar shoes are great for walking.

I like the Pearl Izumi Groove (http://www.pearlizumi.com/product.php?mode=view&product_id=614&type_id=1&sport_id=2&category_id=7&color_code=444). Basically I use these as my everyday shoes. They just "happen" to have SPD cleats on the bottom... very walkable, they look like normal sneakers. The SPD cleat makes a slight crunch on concrete/asphalt, but not on any other surface.

They retail for $65, but I got 'em on ebay for $25. A good deal if you can get them cheap.

I am actaully new to clipless shoes myself, and recently bought a pair of Nike Kato III Strap. I am not normally a Nike fan; in this case though I found them a good choice because my feet are rather wide so I was having a tough time with several other cycling shoes as they are quite narrow. If I could squeeze my foot in I had an extra two to three cm at the front of the shoe. These have been rather nice so far and I think they look okay, but they do look more like a bike shoes then the Pearl Izumi and C-dales recommended above.

The one do-it-all shoe I've been pretty happy with in the past was the Lake CX125. They've discontinued it but the successor is the Lake CX120. These shoes accept all popular brands of cleats... even road cleats and they're very walkable.

Lake also has a nice collection of street-shoe looking casual cycling shoes but they mainly only accept SPD style cleats.

The Lakes MX series are very nice shoes. I have been using the MX101 04 model most of this season and am very pleased with them. Quite often I will wear them around the office all day.

I have the Lake MX 60 shoes ... they are very comfy for walking errands. And they are very cool ... the mesh parts really let alot of air in.
Here's a link at nashbar for them (under $50)

So Lake makes SPD sandles too? Are they any better / cheaper than the Shimano brand?

I think they are. They protect the toes better.
