This just happened and hour or so ago, so please keep you eyes out. My buddy's bike got ripped off at a party. Here's a description:
Older KHS frame, the kind with the curved seat tube. Very small(47-50ish) with a dark purple-to-blue fade paint job. Number "78" in stickers on seat tube, paint fairly chipped up from use. Oldstyle beer label on head tube. Bare aluminum sloping crown fork.
Steel track bars, black cloth tape on the drops, with a short 1 bolt alloy quill stem. Black seatpost, saddle narrow black WTB. Front wheel radial spoked Spinergy, slightly deep profile, spoked, not carbon. Rear wheel laced to a Phil hub, not sure about the rim. Very distinctive black plastic clip-on fender with spikes screwed into it, dog collar type, with a big sticker of a gasmask. Time mtb pedals, Sugino 75 cranks(I think).
Bike was stolen in Humboldt Park, from a yard at a party, near California and Augusta, around 11:30-12 tonight. Please keep your eyes open and grab this bike if you see it. There are only a couple bikes of this model in Chicago, and I've never seen another this size. There will be a reward of some kind for any info leading to the recovery, no questions asked.

Hey Ira - I will keep an eye out at the velodrome for this ride (just in case). Sorry to hear this happened. Did this make it to Craigslist and the word spread to local shops? Maybe photocopied flyers with a pic and some contacxt info? Might help.
Hope it is recovered.
I will definitely keep an eye out especially since I pass jinx & goldstar where all the
fixie kids in west town hang out & on western ave with all the guys selling stolen bike crap out of shopping carts.
sidebar: I walked out of a condo sales center when they told me I wouldn't be
able to bring my bike in the elevators, but that they had a bike room. No thanks.

this sucks. i'll keep an eye out. i did see this post on Craigslist, hopefully it turns up.
my roomate's lock was cut & his bike stolen out of our courtyard over the weekend. i keep my bikes inside but it still freaks me out. i don't like knowing that some shady bastard was 4 feet away from my bedroom window with a pair of bolt cutters stealing crap. it gives me the heebie-jeebies.
Eyes peeled. Can't even trust your fellow party-goers - was it someone at the party or someone passing by you think?

I think it was someone at the party, hopefully a drunk who will bring it back when he/she sobers up. It was a big party and there were a lot of people walking in at the end.

I've only seen one sloped tube KHS in purple in Chicago. And it used to belong to me.
There's another but it's silver (ahh!) and it's larger.

My friend's name is Bob, he's been riding the bike around Chicago for at least four years. I'm guessing some of you have seen it downtown before.

Okay, make that two in Chicago...
I just started a new gig downtown. I guess I won't be seeing it....
The bike has been listed on CL.

Either the crooks are quite dumb and don't read the CL they are posting on, or it's just someone being mean.
good god. i hope that's really the bike. and i hope you get it back. having your bike stolen is the worst feeling ever.

It's gotta be someone fu*king with him. Either way though, now you can just answer the ad, tell them you want to pick it up, and go beat their ass. :)

I offered to buy it for $350.

I wouldn't post that you are going to pick this up here. Could someone be following the posts here?

Well, yeah...
That second post is a word-for-word copy of Ira in Chi's original post. The guy on craig's list is using his description as the description to sell the bike.
That's why it's gotta be someone fu*king with him. Either that, or a spiteful theif.

This makes three track bikes (by my count) that have been stolen in recent months. This one, the pista & the red Cinelli.
It's a fraction of a percent of all bikes stolen in the city. But where do they go?

Thanks for your help, guys. The poster on Craigslist was definitly a troll, it looks like his post has been removed either way. It blows me away how dumb people can be when they have the option of posting anonymously.

Yeah, that sucks. I really wanted to buy it....
