Picked up this 1987 Raleigh Technium 440 at a goodwill store the other day for four bucks. New tires and tubes, bar tape, and a spare seat from the basement, brought the total to $40.00 It rides real nice, think I'll keep it as a beater. And yes, I believe I will keep the kick stand on it.http://www.phototalk.net/photos/data/500/160PICT0837.jpg

Nice. Is there any possibility the frame is a Reynolds?

IIRC techniums were a "hybrid" frame with a mix of aluminum and steel tubes bonded together. Interesting idea but didn't really reduce weight much, if at all. I guess the modern frames with CF rear triangles on either steel or alum main triangles are a variation on the theme.

Techniums were nice bikes and your price is just about untouchable.

The main frame is made of Alcoa 6061-T8 aluminum. As mentioned, the rear triangle is steel. It is bolted and bonded to the aluminum.

From what I've gathered, the reason for the steel rear end, was to soften the ride. The feel is still very aluminum like.
