this is pretty much all I do in my 8-10 hours at work
occasionally I'll cad something up, but not until I've read the latest "cyclist was hit by a car/truck/deer/run away bobsled" thread

Well since I found out yesterday that I'll most likely be losing my job this year, I vote for bike forums.

I spend more time on BF than I do on my bike. I'm trying to spend less time here but can't do it cold turkey. So I'm starting off by trying to spend no more time here than I do commuting which is 1 hr/day. I think I'm already over that limit now :o

That and the free parking employee benefit. Since parking got tight, I now get $900 per year for not using a spot = WooHoo more bicycle things.

Well...It also helps to pay for the ride.

Like the slogan says: Work to live. Live to bike. Bike to work.

you'd think so...but i seemed to remember having 3 bikes when i was in college: a fixed gear, a lugged steel roadie (which i still own) and an all-rigid mtb.

but i made about 1/5 what i do now....and had way more time to ride. and drink.

Yeah... Reading bike forums is WAAAAAAY more interesting than figuring out what the heck is wrong with all the $@*(# software packages we're trying to integrate.

If they don't provide good enough work...

I heard a great speaker a few weeks ago. He said, open source software development WORKS. It does, there are many open source packages that are as good or better than commercial packages.

But NO ONE GETS PAID!!!

So why don't companies take a look at that model and say "Hey! Why don't we figure out how those guys get motivated, and try to motivate our employees?"

Because that's too much like work, and they're all out there reading BF. ;)

I work as part of an outsourced contract for a typical big government company. I spend my day giving support to hundreds of people who are spoiled rotten by the gravy train they don't even appreciate (oh you wouldn't believe what these sods get!), all the while knowing that my taxes pay for it.

I now spend as little effort as I can working, and I'm only here for the money. I'm planning to leave in 6 months and escape society for a while.

News, The Onion, and Maddox can only keep me occupied for so long.

Thank heavens for Bike Forums :)

I mostly come here before and after work. I guess I'm one of the few who is usually busy.

But then there are the slow days...

I only serve my gravy train masters. I'm not one of them. Sorry, I need the money to buy my freedom :D

p.s. I have to say, without doubt, yours has to be the most suitable avatar I've seen on these forums yet.

They recently upgraded the Internet abuse detection software at work... since I'm the only cyclist at work I have had to reduce my bikeforums surfing to home only (On a creaping slow dial-up!).
