Bicycle Mechanics - Creaking bottom bracket

I have Syncros titanium bottom brackets on my mountain bike and now I have noticed major creaking.

It doesn't happen when I'm doing nice steady spins even at high cadence, but it happens when I'm grinding my way uphills, especially when I stand. I think it's the downward pressure that causes it.

Any suggestion on how I should go about addressing it?

Slather grease or antisieze compound on everything that touches anything, perhaps. I've also heard it suggested that people use white glue on the spindle flats, never tried that myself.

Ti bottom brackets seem prone to creaking. I've had four, including a Syncros, and it sort of came with the territory. Lately I've been using standard Shimano units, although even they can get to creaking unless I take them apart and grease the cup-to-cartridge interface (many of their latest ones build the driveside cup into the cartridge now, however).

I've always gotten creaking from my BB (while pushing hard) when a crank was coming loose. Probably not the problem, but worth checking just in case.

This just happened to me. Put grease on the threads of the BB cartridge and tighten it down pretty hard. You'll need special tools to remove the crank arms and BB. Hope this helps.

The absolute best fix for creaking BB's is as follows.

1)Remove and thoroughly clean both the BB and the inside of the BB shell.

2)Wrap the thread of the BB cups with teflon tape. One layer is fine here.

3)Slather a high quality bike grease on the inside of the BB shell.

4)install and tighten to the proper torque ratings the BB into the BB shell.

Do this once a year on your bike if you ride in especially wet conditions. That's all there is too it. I have ridden in some of the worst mud and water and also in the dryest conditions and never had a creak after doing this fix. Get the teflon tape at any auto supply store or any home improvement shop in the plumbing section.

I had the same problem....
When I transferred my drivetrain et all, from my old bike to my new frame, I noticed this creak,

I had installed a new BB and well, seccond guessed my installation.
I removed cranks, BB greased all up again and re-installed,
You know what...?

I still had the creak,

So, I repeated the process...
And you guessed it...

It STILL CREAKED!!

Well... then I came here....

I found that somone else had asked the same question, because they had the same problem...
I read the wise old man's suggestion... I made sure my rear skewer was nice and snug....

Creak gone...
