I'm an avid female mountain biker for 10+ years now. I know what your thinking....Mountain biking in Michigan? Well, it's more like rolling hills and such, But I have traveled all across the country with my trusty bike. We've been to California, Massachusets, Ohio, Vermont (my all time favorite) and let's not forget the U.P. That's the Upper Penninsula of my home state-Michigan. It's the best riding in the state. I started out riding a Trek 800 back in the day, and moved up to a Cannondale after I rented one to ride around the island of Nantucket (MA). This brings me to my current bike: a Gary Fisher HKEK "05" I have never ridden it yet, It's still in lay away until I pay it off, hopefully by the end of July.
I love the sport, but I wish there were more female riders out there. It has gotten better since I started out years ago. Every guy should buy their girlfriend a mountain bike (forget the diamonds!)
Shimano is a girl's best friend :D

Come south, dear lady. There is a single track series of trails that I ride regularly where the smell of estrogen being burned by hard pumping thighs permeates the air. The next time I get to the UP I will have to bring my MTB. The last time I was up there I brought my road bike and wandered along the southwest part of the UP and the west shore south past Traverse City, Charlevoix, etc. What's some of your favorite riding in the UP?

Some good trails I've been on in the UP are in Marquette(forgot the name), but they have maps at Maple Lane Sports in Skandia. Even better is the Elcho Tract Bike Complex in Ironwood. It takes you through hardwood forest, beaver ponds and numerous rivers. Check it out if you ever come back to the UP eh?

I will have to check out those trails sometime. I am familiar with the Ironwood area since I grew up not far from there in northern Wisconsin.
