Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - I guess Radio Shack doesn't promote bicycles...

I was on a ride around downtown tonight and I went to check out the newly opened Radio Shack headquarters. I was track standing on a corner just looking at the building. There was nobody around. This is around 7:30p.m. When out of nowhere some VERY large security guard starts whistling and yelling HEY at me. I looked over at him and he says, "NO BIKES ALLOWED." WTF? But the parking garage full of cars is okay apparently? This has to be one of the least bike friendly towns ever.

P.S. I am still in Fort Worth, Texas until the end of July. Then it's Austin.

In my pantry. There is a place called spiral diner now though. It's great. It has been winning all kinds of magazine awards as best vegan organic food in the country. It's always voted top tens. But yeah, this isn't an open minded area at all.

thats why fort worth sucks... and if you want to have some fun ill be setting up some alleycats here in the next few weeks/month or so and then vegan awesomeness at veggie heaven on the drag afterwards. you should come.

Seriously, Let me know If I can help out. Trust me, those aren't the only reasons FW sucks. Definitely keep me informed on the Alleycats. I went to Veggie Heaven a couple of years ago and it wasn't bad. I tried to go back a month ago and couldn't find a table and there isn't exactly anywhere to stand and wait. Are you familiar with Casa de luz? I think that's what it's called. I am hearing great things about it.

havent heard of casa de luz, but ill keep you in on the alleycats. im actually going to florida for a week or two (its flat as hell but its florida) so thats why the alleycats are on hold but if you wanted to jump right into some go check out eastside pedal pushers on E 6th a couple blocks off I35. they usually have some flyers for local stuff.

Bicycles aren't allowed in most parking garages and if they are they're only allowed to lock up on the main level where the bike racks are.

Right..he was on a corner but the security guards were at a parking garage. They were telling him that he can't bring his bike inside the garage. I'm not sure if he looked like he was going to try to bring it in or what. I wasn't there.

Detroit is also very poor. 75% of the students in Detroit drop out after the 9th grade. There is no decent public transportation system. Most residents are not educated on healthy eating and are also living below the poverty line so their little amount of money is spent on buying cheap fast food. It's a very sad situation and if it wasn't for this situation I wouldn't be considering moving to Chicago at the end of the summer.

That's a long way away, it does seem strange. Next time yell "No yelling at cyclists on the corner"

Oh, Oh and the best part is that the fort worth bike trail runs behind the building along the trinity river. The trail is actually closer to the building than I was. I just happened to be in the front as opposed to the back. Oh well, this is just dumb. I thought everyone would get a laugh out of it.

So I sent radioshack an email about this the night it happened. I explained everything in detail. They responded the next day saying they would forwarded my message to the security department. So today I got an email from the head of security at radio shack asking me to call him concerning the situation. So I did of course. And guess what, no bicycles allowed is not the company policy. Shocking isn't it. He apologized several times and told me about how there are bike racks all over the new building. When we hung up he probably went on about his day as if I never existed but hey, I feel better. He said the security gaurd would be dealt with. He didn't offer me a new GanWell or Vanilla bike for my trouble unfortunately. *****es.
