Today as I was riding I was going past a store where a girl in her car came to the driveway to pull out into traffic. I noticed she was on a cell phone. As she stopped to let traffic go by, she then stuck a popsicle in her mouth. I don't know how she was planning on driving but a minute later she passed me She was also driving a newer Volkswagon Bug, are those cars all stick shift cars?

Fortunately no, they aren't all stick shifts. (used to share a buiding with a VW dealership, so I saw plenty) Not that it helps any. I just love these people who do a dozen things while sitting behind the wheel of a car. I say sitting behind the wheel rather than driving because at that point the car is pretty much on it's own.

No, it was probably an automatic. So clearly you're over-reacting and she was probably in complete control.
Don't you feel better now?
Yeah, neither do I.
Personally, here's the agreement I've reached with myself:
I hate cell phone laws, but I use a headset.
I hate seatbelt laws, but I wear my seatbelt.
I hate helmet laws, but I need a helmet.

I was almost hit yesterday by a young guy backing out of a driveway at high speed. He didn't even look. Frequently, I see people driving right through stop signs. Many people I see drive their car going in one direction while their eyes are looking in another direction. I am not talking about some high traffic area. I am talking about a residential neighborhood where the lowest priced homes are $1 million, and $5 million homes are common, a neighborhood where the streets are wide. But traffic on these wide streets is getting worse because of the overload of a nearby freeway.
Life is much too fast paced today and people are trying to do too much. News articles that say you can do this and that and this other thing and commercials that show people driving around at high speed are partly to blame. Businesses support the idea of some imaginary, fast-paced life that will only get people killed. These are difficult times where the extreme right and extreme left are busy destroying society. Those of us who see this happening need to do something, but I don't know what, yet. I wish somebody did.

Wow!
From careless driving to destruction of society due to left and right wing activity! This post covers a lot of political ground.
My favorite was the guy that tried to left turn in front of me while juggling cigarette, coffee and cellphone (at his shoulder). I have no idea how he was actually steering.
He didn't actually make the turn... just kinda fumbled into it... and then stopped.
Idiot!
I have no idea how he was actually steering.
probably with his knees. i know several people that drive with their knees. it scares the poop out of me, actually.

I have a pet peeve about cell phones+driving. I usually at least mime putting a phone to my ear while shaking my head. If possible I'll yell out that it's illegal. Never helps.
Pardon my rant, but I think all cars should be sticks. You should need a special permit to drive an automatic. Not only would it force people to pay more attention to their driving, but it would also make traffic smoother in rush-hour flow. I can filter along much smoother by just using the clutch on my Harley than the average BDC(brain dead cager) using their gas/brake pedals.
We just got a Spanish exchange student the other day, and we were driving to a friends house, my brother was driving, and my brother answers his cell phone. Pablo, the exchange student, was dumbfounded, his jaw wide open. I asked what the matter was, and he said "isn't it illegal to talk on the phone while driving?" I lauged and said no, but I wish it was. In Spain (and I think most of Europe not sure though) it's illegal to talk on your cell phone while driving... What a wonderful law :)

it's illegal here as well (at least in certain US states).
