Road Cycling - Steamboat Springs info...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm going to be in the Steamboat Springs area for 9 days in early August. I am having problems finding road cycling info for that area. Any ideas?
I'll probably get a road map, ask some locals about road conditions and ride. However, if there is a club or shop in the area, I would be better off.

Rabbit Ears Pass up and down (wonderful 8 miles downhill), Granby and return, up to Walden, Gore Pass,

Trail Ridge Road
Lots and lots of highways.
Right now, bring a smoke mask.
The road from Granby to Steamboat (about 80 miles) is great. Take a back pack, ride from Steamboat to Granby, stay overnight in a motel, ride back the next day to Steamboat (or rest one day :) then ride back)
I was out there last year. There is a ride to the base of a mountain - you go north of town on the road that goes by the airport and along a trout steam - ah I remember now Hahn's Peak. It is a 50 mile out and back. It is a very pretty ride. The terrain keeps changing so that is fun and it is a downhill most of the way back.
You can do a ride out to Walden CO in Northpark by way of Rabbit Ears Pass and Muddy Pass and stay there for a night and come back or not.

Thanks for the encouraging info.
It used to be easy to pack equipment when all I did was fly fish. Now that the bike is involved, which kid should I leave at home?
Of course, I'm spoiled by my bike and would hate any rental, as well as feeling extremely unfaithful. Maybe I can strap some luggage and the smallest child to the roof rack. Now the question is, bungee cords or duct tape on the kid? I guess if I used bungees it would be easier at the bathroom breaks. Such fatherly dilemmas.
