I was just wondering if there is a place where recycled old bike parts are assessible to those who need them. It would be nice to have something like this for those who still maintain their old reliable steeds.
I own a couple of old bikes and have encounter needing replacement parts that seem not to be availabe.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a used parts dealer for the old stuff that others have put aside due to new upgrades. A place where everyone can share their ware for those who could use them. Just a wishful thought.

Also there are many cycling websites that feature buy\sell.
Cycling co-ops often accept parts\bikes for re-cycling.
I've boxes of stuff I'll probably never use...I often pass my leftovers to my other cycling friends who need gear.
Half sack of beer for some barely used brake-pads? Done deal.
Also -you seen the 'pay it forward' thread? http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=58822&highlight=pay+forward

There was a guy who would rebuild bikes and distribute them in Africa. I remember one story where he gave a plumber a bicycle. The plumbers effective coverage was about 5 miles radius because he had to walk and carry his tools to every job. But on a bicycle in remote Africa, his effective radius became more like 20 miles.
Amazing how a mere unwanted bicycle could positively affect so many people.
I read this story in Bicycling many years ago. Anyone else remember it?
