A chemist by vocation and a cyclist and fly fisherman/fly tier by avocation I guess would sum things up fairly well. I've been two- wheeling since the age of four and couldn't imagine life without a bike. I have had a great time teaching my daughter (5) and son (3) (who just got his training wheels off this last weekend) to ride. Most of my riding is commuting anymore but I rarely take the most direct route to work just to increase the time in the saddle.
The consulting company I work for was heavily involved in the writing of documents for and the marketing of the EPA / DOT joint program called the Commuter Choice Leadership Initiative (www.commuterchoice.gov). Although there presently is no tax incentive for cyclists, there is movement afoot to get some (goto www.bikefed.org I believe for more info). In starting a velo program here at the lab, I have learned a lot about commute alternatives, cycling programs, advocacy groups, etc., etc., etc. and it is all very interesting stuff that we should all look into at some point in time, in my opinion.
Anyway, I reside with my family (spouse, 3 seedlings, 2 cats and a resident racoon) in Shelton, Washington, which is a short jaunt from Olympia. If you're not afraid of a little water, the riding season is quite long and the fishing is pretty good. My main problem is probably similar to many involved with the Forum...too much desire to ride and never enough time. I presently ride a Trek 7900 hybrid converted to a tourer by changing to drop bars, barcons, aero levers, fenders and racks (F&R). I dream of the day my wife lets me order a new Americano from Co-Motion (www.co-motion.com) or that new Trek 520 or a Bruce Gordon, or a......
I digress.

Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
