I have brutal pain on the left side of my knee. It only flares up after I run. The Doc confirmed that it's IT pain. Anyone else suffer from this? and does it go away?

I'm slowly getting over it after completing my first sprint tri a couple weeks back. First hit me appx 5 weeks before my tri, so I laid back on the run/bike training.
Type "ITB Syndrome" into Google, and you'll find all kinds of info ...
Good luck!
I had major IT problems 3 years ago & ended up with surgery b/c I didn't rest it enough. I tore it off the bone & split it in half. I'm going to recommend that you buy the best cushion shoes you can afford, decrease your mileage significantly & ice, ice, ice on the days that you do run. Anti inflammatories are helpful if you tolerate Aleve or Motrin.
I didn't take my symptoms seriously. I should have & now I have titanium screws in my leg as a result of my "this can't be happening & if it is, I'll gut it out" way of thinking. I train completely differently that I used to.
Get a foam roller! And roll as often as you can. I had this problem and this seems to do the trick. Also, ice as previously stated.
